Unfortunately Dropbox cannot be used on the iOS mobile app, this a limitation of iOS. Nothing Obsidian can do to fix that. I use Dropbox for all my cloud stuff and I have still decided to go ahead and purchase sync for the following reasons:

download dropbox sync

with the new sync feature, what is the best route for me here? Does the new Sync feature presume that the DTPO databases live outside the Dropbox folder? and then sync with the version in the Apps subfolder inside the Dropbox folder?

Please read the instructions carefully. If you encounter problems up to and including a DEVONthink crash during Sync, send a message to Support that includes the logs created by Sync, rather that the normal DEVONthink application crash report. Those logs will be useful to the developer to analyze what happened during the sync attempt.

Check the Activity log (Window > Activity). Prior to initiating sync, the Sync procedure will check for errors in the database and stop if errors are present, leaving a message about database validation. If that happens, use an appropriate procedure to eliminate the error(s), such as Tools > Restore Backup, Tools > Rebuild Database, or replace the damaged database copy (while the database is closed) with an undamaged backup copy, e.g., from Time Machine or a Database Archive.

Please be aware that the video contains a serious error where it recommends to deselected /Apps in the advanced syncing preferences of DropBox. This might cause problems with other apps (other than DEVONThink I mean) and even data loss. Instead deselect /Apps/DevonThink/.

I've been having a lot of trouble with 1Password lately (lost a lot of information lately when I tried changing my primary vault back to Dropbox only to find out it was saving to my iPhone cache and not my actual vault) but now again I noticed that the app absolutely refuses to sync between my iPhone and my iPad. I have to go into settings and manually select to "sync now" and even then it refuses to update. I added extra information (a new website link) to a login and even after updating that link does not appear on anywhere but the device the information was first added (iPhone). All apps are updated and I'm signed into all of them, I even opened my Dropbox app on my iPad hoping that would force an update but no dice. You can see in the screenshots that the total number items doesn't even match up. Short of just uninstalling and re-installing the app, what else can I do?

Do you have more than 3 total devices linked to your Dropbox account? Dropbox recently started limiting free accounts to 3 devices. If you do find yourself running up against that limit you may want to consider upgrading to a 1Password membership. With membership you get access to the latest version of 1Password for all of your compatible devices and they'll all stay in sync (there is no limit to the number of devices):

Sorry for the lack of info. Do you mean do I have three devices linked to Dropbox in general or three devices using 1Password? Because I have multiple devices linked to my Dropbox but exactly three using 1Password (iPhone, iMac, iPad). I have a Dropbox plus account as well as a 1Password membership. That was what cause me to lose data the first time because I update on my Mac and it was using my 1Password account as a vault and I switched it back to Dropbox but my info was being cached to my devices themselves instead being saved to my Dropbox vault. The 1Password support was not able to help me recover that info. That's one of the reasons I actually uninstalled 1Password on all devices and re-downloaded them. This new issue is something I noticed today when I attempted to access a weblink on my iPad only to see it hadn't synced from my iPhone.

Under a Windows OS, 'sleep' means that the computer is off and not running programs, but memory is being held live so that it can wake up very quickly. In this state, NO, dropbox can't sync, because it's not running.

With my Dropbox on Mac, I found by looking at my Recent Event page on dropbox.com that the sync only happens while I'm at the machine, although I didn't let it sleep before I left (to sync the huge batch of files). The solution above worked for me -- now it syncs while I'm away.

All my application sync folders are in \dropbox\apps. I created a folder \dropbox\apps\Alfred for this purpose. When in Alfred preferences (Advanced Tab) I want to point to that location, when the file selection dialog box pops up it first shows all folders, then it flashes and grays-out the \apps subfolder and I cannot navigate to the targer \Alfred to make that a synch location.

We have had a number of reports where users who select the Dropbox/Apps/ folder for syncing have experienced odd behaviour (e.g. preferences not saving correctly). We believe this is due to this folder being reserved for applications using the Dropbox API (which Alfred doesn't use) and have not been able to resolve this with the help of the Dropbox team.

Thank you so much for the help! This helped with detecting content in subfolders the only problem i'm facing know is that it doesn't ' sync my file i've tried to modify a word doc in dropbox but i can't see the changes in the sharepoint folder.

I had a DropBox fiasco this week. For some reason, all my zettelkaten files, on my office mac suddenly have a 3 Feb 2023 timestamp, both the modified and the created. The files on my shop laptop remain unchanged. But I'm worried and have temporarily turned off DropBox syncing. I've started a super-top-secret coding project that uses these file parameters and am worried my file's timestamps will get mucked with.

What cloud storage options do The Archive users use? Other ZK software offers its sync service, which differs from cloud storage. Seem a bit weird, though. I used DropBox primarily for file transferring and file sync between two or three computers, but I will be consolidating to one for now. So what do I need DropBox for?

I bit the bullet and went through DropBox's change. It turns out they create an alias in your original /Users/ location. So far, all my testing shows that everything works as it always did. Keyboard Maestro, iOS Shortcuts, complete syncing, The Archive, it all seems fine.

Please note that having Dropbox synchronization turned on does not enable your collaborators to also sync projects to their local Dropbox folders (unless they also have a premium subscription). For premium users who wish to enable collaborators to sync locally, we recommend the Git or GitHub sync options.

You can see the Dropbox folder that is linked to your project by clicking on the Dropbox button in your project's Menu. This also presents the current status and provides an option for directly triggering a background synchronization.

This integration results in two-way updates between Dropbox and Overleaf. This means that any changes you make to the contents of these folders can then be synced and reflected in Overleaf. This includes:

Archived and Trashed projects in your Overleaf project list will not be actively synced with Dropbox once archived or trashed. But a copy of the files is left in your Dropbox folder since many users use our Dropbox sync feature as a backup of their Overleaf projects.

Please note: once a project is archived, any updates you make in Dropbox will stop syncing to Overleaf. However, if you continue to edit an archived project on Overleaf, those changes may be sent to Dropbox. Specifically, files you change will be sent to your Dropbox again. Archiving a project stops the sync in one direction, Dropbox to Overleaf, but does not stop it in the Overleaf to Dropbox direction.

If it seems that a project that should be synchronized is not synchronizing, please try unlinking and relinking your Dropbox account in your Overleaf Account Settings. If you continue to have trouble, please contact Overleaf support.

Could not find anything on the support site. I was able to sync my iPhone Codebook with my Dropbox account but now it fails. It freezes during the sync at 80%. I have rebooted the iPhone, etc. but to no avail.

Please remember, level 2 data should NOT be synced to your desktop, laptop, or mobile device per Data Handling Guideline. If you have questions about the data levels, please contact your Data Security Officer, Information Security Liaison, or the Information Security Compliance Office.

Few, therefore, of its half-a-billion users are aware that last year the file sync and share platform completely migrated its entire core infrastructure off Amazon Web Services into custom-built datacenters of its own. CTO Aditya Agarwal, who I spoke to on a visit to London earlier this month, is still a little in awe of what his team achieved:

As CTO, a title he assumed in October after four years as VP of engineering, it's Agarwal's job to make sure things go wrong as little as possible. He's been the main architect of Dropbox for Business, charged with turning the sync-and-share platform into one that enterprises embrace. That's meant adding features such as Dropbox Infinite, which gives users local access to files without having to download the entire file store, and AdminX, a set of administration tools that provides the kind of granular control over access rights that enterprises demand.

Infinite retains local syncing, but it only downloads files locally if the user's likely to need them. The rest of the files stay in the cloud in what is effectively "a company-level Dropbox," says Agarwal. It's a simple enough concept, but quite an engineering challenge:

It just has these massively difficult technical challenges. You're going from 2GB to potentially 20TB, in terms of the amount of data that your company has. How do you provide all of that data, only sync the data that the individual person in your company needs, hence Project Infinite, and how do you essentially make it perform and make it reliable and secure?

One year from now, people will look back and essentially will not believe that the file syncing and sharing solutions out there do not work the way that Dropbox Infinite does. We're the only solution in the market that actually provides that. We're very proud of that.
