Just recently bought a 990 PRO 2TB to put in my Dell XPS 8950. The drive was recognized by the computer. It came with firmware 1B2QJXD7. I installed Samsung Magician and updated to 7.3.0, checked the info (no incompatibilities) and successfully ran the benchmarks. All was well. No issues. This morning, I got a notification to update the firmware on my 990 PRO from 1B2QJXD7 to 3B2QJXD7, but when I click on the "update" button, it starts the update and tells me I should save my work and I click "Ok" to continue the update. However, the update fails soon after that and returns with "Failed to update the firmware on the selected drive." Looked at the log files. Seems to be trying to do the firmware update but can't seem to find it and just times out. Anyone seeing the same problem? Anyone have a solution?
Update: Well I found a solution that works on my Dell computer. The solution is one that I saw posted as a solution to this problem, in several places, but I discounted because it seemed like it was too much to do to get a firmware update to work. There had to be something easier. My computer has 2 slots for SSDs. It came with a 1TB SSD in one slot and I put my 990 PRO 2TB in the other slot. The posted solution that worked for me was to swap the SSDs (put the 990 in slot0?). I swapped the SSDs, started up and Samsung Magician installed the firmware cleanly, without changing anything else. Took less than 5 minutes (use proper anti static mat and wrist strap).
Per the instructions from SamsungLou below, I found an older 16gb microcenter brand thumbdrive (usb 3.0 or older). Formatted to Fat32, and I was able to update firmware 1008 with this thumbdrive. I'm able to see my desktop at 5120x1440 @240hz now.
I have the same problem :(. I only have a different model number: LC49G95TSSUXEN
I'm close to send this product back as the text are very blurry compared to my main laptop view. I hope to get that sorted with the firmware update.
Do you also have this issue?
You rock! Worked exactly as you described. Updated to the latest firmware! Read about this at first on Reddit (not on the UNRAID channel) and thought this would be more difficult. Seriously, thank you for this write up!!!
I have two 970 EVO Plus drives in a cache pool together for mirroring. The drive named "Cache" has an older firmware starting with '2B' and Cache 2 already has the updated firmware starting '4B'. I'm looking to update the "Cache" NVME.
Same problem with my 870s. It was required to write the ISO to a USB stick (using mkusb, rufus, etc) or burn it to a CD and boot directly from it. Worked fine then, updating firmware from SVT01B6Q to SVT02B6Q.
I found out that the updated firmware has a Serial Number check. It is apparently designed to correct an issue that only affects a specific batch of drives, so if your drive is not on the serial number checklist it will not install.
I have a Samsung laptop (Galaxy Book), and am trying to install the new firmware update via Samsung Update. I keep getting an error message 'Fail: Flash error. Flash tool reported error (103). Please check log file.' I have no idea what this means, but I've tried the update several times over several days, and got the same error message. Can anyone help / advise? (I have updated to Windows 11, if that makes a difference.) Thank you.
Hey everyone. I bought a Z flip 4 second hand cause I've always wanted to try one out, having been a fold user for the last few years. I scored a great deal but unfortunatly, the phone I bought is a At&t device. The phone is unlocked, and I'd like to put the official Samsung firmware on it so I don't have the At&t bloatware and boot animation.
I'm having problems with my SSD (samsung 850 PRO) on linux so I wanted to update the firmware. I reinstalled windows and downloaded the magician software. It recognizes my SSD, I can run some benchmarks, but there's a message saying "this drive is not supported".
I've then gone into the samsung's website to download the firmware updater. It gives me an ISO file that I should burn using uNetBooting onto a pen drive (it says that this is a firmware update through windows, but it actually is a linux image that will run in the pen drive and do the update, I guess).
Go to Go to the "Samsung SSD Firmware" section. The links there to go to standalone ISO images which you can either burn to a CD/DVD, or convert into a bootable USB drive (by following the Samsung firmware install guide or using unetbootin). Make sure to choose the link that matches your drive!
I ran into the exact same issues. Setting my BIOS "Boot mode" option to "Legacy" allowed my machine to boot the Samsung SSD firmware updater successfully. I changed the setting back after updating the firmware without any issues.
I got this camera recently from someone and tried to format it with the card I bought but it won't work. I don't know if it is too large or some other reasoning. Another problem I've had is it needs to be updated because the firmware version it's at right now is 1.0.3 so I decided follow tutorials. However, I was looking on the official canon website and there wasn't any firmware updates to download. I'm just lost on what to do
If the firmware can't be found at Canon you can try Eoscard that has a collection of firmware updates. Is it safe to download? Well, I have generated sha256 checksums for Canon firmware updates, see -sha256-checksum-to-verify-canon-firmware-updates/
the latest firmware update (R890XXU1EVA8) breaks the Always On Display functionality. It is only updated very rarely (15-20 minutes). I saw this is already discussed in the watch face studio section. But it not only affects watch face. Also apps using ambient mode freeze. For example, my favorite training app Seven ( =se.perigee.android.seven&hl=de&gl=US). It count downs the seconds to exercise when in ambient mode. Now it stops after a few seconds and does not continue.

It's sad, but unfortunately very true. The latest firmware update (popularly distributed through Samsung's own Magician Software) bricks your shiny SSD. Many complaints are going through to Samsung and social websites are buzzing with people trying to share their situation and maybe find a solution to the problem. That being said, the only one as of this date is the RMA the darn thing.
Edit: There's not much information on this to be found currently, but Anandtech has a thread in their forum about this issue ( =2421585 ). It seems (not confirmed) that only the firmware update of the 850 Pro does this.
EDIT: Just benchmarked 457 M/Bs read 280 MB/s write and 0.05ms. access time compared to about 117 read and 103 write and 15ms. access time on my platters, not blazing but in spec. I'll pass on messing with firmware for a minute:)
Slow downs are one problem, but firmware bricking your own flagship product? Total bummer. I personally haven't had anything bricked by firmware in ages. Seems kind of pathetic when you think about it.
The best part of it all is the Magician Software. I mean, who cares about a firmware update to a solid state drive? It's not like it was badly needed. If it hadn't been for the constant nagging from the software I would have never bothered with the update. Samsung knew about this problem since the 19th of Feb, why they didn't pull the firmware right away is beyond my comprehension. I guess they like dealing with RMAs.
