有15.2mm(3小时)降雨。

Roger

Thanks Rogers.

I suppose we are on the way back on Sunday, so no hiking in the rain even there's storm?

If, only if, the worst case the weather there does not work for our trip to New York, how about we define a backup trip and go together for the long weekend?

Hello Everyone,

As planned, we are going to climb Algonquin Peak on Sunday. On Saturday and Monday we will be on the way between States and Canada.

Unfortunately, the weather on Sunday changes a lot from no rain to strong thunderstorm as forecasted at http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/ray-brook-ny/12977/daily-weather-forecast/2128575?day=4

So we have to wait to see if there is a hope of good weather. The camping ground at http://www.reserveamerica.com/campgroundMap.do still shows 13 sites available (2 were booked yesterday).

As for the backup plan, I honestly have no idea and would like your guys to put two cents.

Thanks,

Roger

Hi Roger, and other friends,

As for the backup plan, if anybody has good idea, that would be wonderful. If not, how about we just use MikeCaptain's plan for Bruce Trail hiking. There is two-days hiking plan and one day's hiking plan. I think most of us are in MikeCaptain's hiking team, and already received the email for these plans.

Have a good day,
Helen

I would like to have a plan B while we keep tracking the T-Storm going. I am opening to any outdoor activities in Canada or in US within 6, 7 hours driving distance.

How about a two-days trip to Québec, QC area because the weather indicates positive?

Same here. Flexible for any days of outdoor activities.

How about 5-fingers lake area? Many people may visit it before already.

I vote for GaoYuan's idea - finger lake. Because it is so well known as east grand canyon, beautiful waterfalls, good for hiking and camping.  If a lot of us have not yet visited there before (I haven't), it's worth the trip.  Anybody has already been there, please give some input.

If not, whatever decision you guys going to make for our plan B, I'll follow.

Let's make this trip joyful and unforgetable.

Have a great afternoon,
Helen

Hello,

Finger lake area is suitable for camping as well, but the weather is same as Adirondack area. Sunday's weather at Mont Tremblant is bad too.

If we push Mont Tremblant climbing to Monday, when the weather is not too bad,  then we have to drive 7 hours back to Toronto that day, plus at least 5 hours to climb Mont Tremblant and play around. Thus,  that will be too tough for Monday.

Maybe touring Ottawa is a choice instead during the long weekend. There are a lot sites to go  in Ottawa. Simple plan could be :

1 Sat, driving to Ottowa, 5 hours,
Touring Ottawa http://iseanblog.blogspot.ca/2010/12/ottawa-catalogue-listing.html
Food hunting
Staying one night at $97/Night

http://www.expedia.ca/Ottawa-Hotels-Embassy-West-Hotel.h9909.Hotel-Information?chkin=04%2F08%2F2012&chkout=06%2F08%2F2012&rm1=a2&hwrqCacheKey=1e6ba4b7-f122-4800-bb73-c106bbac3454HWRQ1343932966151&c=7a16fe03-300a-400e-ab72-410821616a32&&hashTag=default&rfrr=-30461

2. Sun, continuing touring

3. Mon, driving back to Toronto, 5 hours

-----------------------------------
Or another choice is leaving on Friday,  and climbing on Sat and camping one night.

So, We leave on Friday night, Sat.climbing, Sunday night going back.

I think that would be a good plan because we would avoid traffic on Monday when most ppl. would be on return on that day.

I suppose we are on the way back on Sunday, so no hiking in the rain even there's storm?

If, only if, the worst case the weather there does not work for our trip to New York, how about we define a backup trip and go together for the long weekend?

I like WangZhao's idea. If weather permitted on Saturday, we may leave
Friday before mid-night. Arrival in Saturday morning and start
climbing. Preparing for the early leave and check the weather in
Friday evening. This is the plan B. In the meaning time, we can find a
second destination as a plan C. What do you think, guys?

Wangzhao's proposal is actually do-able.
I checked the weather of lake placid again, it says  Saturday:
  • Max UV Index: 7 (high)
  • Thunderstorm Probability: 60%
  • Amount of Precipitation: 2.00 mm
  • Amount of Rain: 2.0 mm
  • Amount of Snow: 0.00 cm
  • Amount of Ice: 0.0 mm
  • Hours of Precipitation: 1 hrs
  • Hours of Rain: 1 hrs
1. leave Friday, (Rest in the middle somewhere) some one can leave earilier around 2:00pm,someone may leave after work, or someone leaves at midnight--- depends on each one's schedule
suggest to take HWY towards Kingston port , or prescott port (rarely delay )

2. Meet saturday at base/ trail head around 10-10:30am
16km climbing and down -- 7 hours should be eough  (it took us less than 8 hours last time for 17.8km Mt Giant & Rocky peak ridge trail)

3. rest same as wangzhao's proposal

Sat. night Camping or hotel#2
Sunday morning touring city
Sunday night 4pm start going back to Toronto or someone continue the shopping tour
each car goes as group:  try to find the camping or hotel togaher

someone may not be able to make the tour due to the change. each driver contact the carpoolers to decide when to departure, where to stay for Friday night.

Saturday , camping togather .

how about that?

I am OK for the proposal and could set off at anytime defined by the driver.

When we make final decision? Some people may not able to check email in office tomorrow. And if team decide to set off in Friday, need package staff earlier.

now, if we need make the plan B happen, we need to determine :

1. giving up plan A - New York state one.
2. how many ppl. in plan B.
3. group #, and ppl. # leave Toronto time.
4. somewhere between Toronto and Ottawa, we need hotel#1 located. to deal with Friday night.
5. Sat. 10am-10:30am meeting at trail head, detailed map is required.
6. Sat., we may have 6-7 hours for the hike.
7. after the hike, we need to have camping or hotel#2 determined.
8.After Sat. night, we will need to get up about 6:00-8:00am, city of Ottawa tour, shopping if in need.
9. about 4:00pm, set off to Toronoto - about 10:00p-11:00p back to sleep at Toronto home bed.
10. costs distribution & communications

We need to prep. all above as soon as possible.

So, We leave on Friday night, Sat.climbing, Sunday night going back.

I think that would be a good plan because we would avoid traffic on Monday when most ppl. would be on return on that day.

So, We leave on Friday night, Sat.climbing, Sunday night going back.

I think that would be a good plan because we would avoid traffic on Monday when most ppl. would be on return on that day.

Maybe touring Ottawa is a choice instead during the long weekend. There are a lot sites to go  in Ottawa. Simple plan could be :

1 Sat, driving to Ottowa, 5 hours,
Touring Ottawa http://iseanblog.blogspot.ca/2010/12/ottawa-catalogue-listing.html

I suppose we are on the way back on Sunday, so no hiking in the rain even there's storm?

If, only if, the worst case the weather there does not work for our trip to New York, how about we define a backup trip and go together for the long weekend?

有15.2mm(3小时)降雨。

Roger

I called Jackie and Dennis. Mostlikely we are okay to keave Friday
after work and climb the mountain in the early Saturday morning.
I think it is better to start earlier Saturday morning to avoid bad
weather on the way. 10 o'clock is a bit of later.

I'm afraid someone may leave late, can't get close or find place to stay close to lake placid, may need some time driving  in Saturday morning.
How about: try to meet 9:00am at ADK
When 4pm the T-storm starts, we should be already on the way return. Not at the summit. It should be fine.

My understanding is that we all are going to Mt Algonquin, Adirondack, NY. The difference compared to original plan is that we now have to leave on Friday afternoon or evening or later, based on everybody's situation. We'll try to start climbing about 10 am or earlier on Saturday morning.

Please correct me if we shall interpret different way. Let's see what Roger is going to say? He is the organizer and he did last time with a lot of experience.

CHECK-IN TIME-From 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. Campers must register for their campsite by 9:00 p.m. on the first night of their reservation or the campsite will be subject to re-rental and all fees will be forfeited
