Dear All
In the light of the furore about hydraulic fracturing (fracking) to
obtain shale gas, Caroline Lucas has tabled (Oct 20) a new EDM here
http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2010-12/2292?mid=51226 So far only 12
MPs have signed it but it’s still early days.
I have written to my MP to ask him to sign and urge you to do the
same. My letter (a pastiche of the EDM words basically) is pasted
below should you be short of time.
Cheers
Diana

Dear
As one of your environmentally concerned constituents, I have learned
that EDM 2292 was tabled last Thursday Oct 20, recommending the
imposition of a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing, at the very least
until the publication of an environmental impact assessment on its
role in the contamination of local water sources. Since 30% of the
UK’s drinking water comes from aquifers, I believe this issue to be of
paramount importance to public health. And quite apart from the health
issue, the government really ought to be backing the development of
clean green energy solutions rather than encouraging the exploitation
of ever riskier to obtain fossil fuels.
I urge you to sign this EDM at the earliest opportunity, and show that
you care about public health and the development of a low carbon
economy.
Kind regards
