some time ago we have been in touch about the Youth Climate Solidarity Project.
You may remember that the idea is to link up young people in different countries to learn about each other, about how the climate crisis affects them and to stand together in solidarity. You are the persons who wanted to help facilitate the mechanism. We haven't started yet, because only about 30 participants have signed up so far!
Please get the word out to your friends. We would love to start matching and getting everyone in touch with their "climate buddies"!
Please feel free to use and adapt the email below which I have used for inviting people. (obviously with limited success!)
Hi everyone,
this is an invitation to join the Youth Climate Solidarity Project.
In order to face the climate crisis based on solidarity, we do not need to wait on governments. We can do it today. Here is how.
In the Youth Climate Solidarity Project one person in an Over-Consuming Country (OCC) gets linked up with a person ("climate buddy") in a Lower-Consuming Country (LCC), accepting moral responsibility for the impacts of climate change lived by this person. The buddies explore each others living conditions and their related emissions. If the LCC buddy is hit by a climate change related impact, the OCC buddy helps him out of trouble, living the principle of solidarity.
Together, both explore their lifestyles and options for reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. Most likely LCC buddies will have much knowledge to share about low-carbon or zero-emissions solutions for human needs. Ideally this learning enterprise and exchange ultimately leads both buddies to climate positive lifestyles, where they take greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere, instead of putting more up, converting themselves into pioneers for a climate friendly world society and into leaders and examples in their community.
The Youth Climate Solidarity Project functions as broker and facilitates through help with emissions calculation and suggestions for activities and ways of interacting and sharing. We collect best-practices and disseminate them.
Participants in a first step will be climate activists of the International Youth Climate Movement who can serve as multipliers in their communities. We aim to grow and expand this global climate solidarity mechanism horizontally, linking it with friends, family, classes, schools, existing organizations and networks, communities, cities and finally whole countries. This direct solidarity will ideally grow to become one of the underpinnings of humanity's response to the Climate Crisis.
Please join us!
best wishes from Chiapas, Mexico,
Kjell
P.S.: Don't be shy to forward this and invite further friends!
