May 2011 saw this season's sea ice melting in the Arctic Ocean's falling through three standard deviations marker (= a once-in-every 1/350 to 1/370 year event). The last month was too early for the melting to have reached the last year's peak melting that was at 4 standard deviations (once in 15,800 year event):
