The Glacier and Glacial Lake Inventory in Himalayan regions from China

In China, we completed the glacier inventory in the past three
decades, which covered the Chinese regions along Himalayan. The
current inventory is a milestone, and we are starting up the second
inventory. Furthermore, the glacier inventory in different periods
will give us more information about the impacts on glacier from
climate change.

In past several decades, Chinese scientists did substantial efforts to
let government to know the GLOF. Several important projects have been
funded to investigate the glacier and glacier hazards, and some
conferences about these hazards were/are holding to discuss these
issues. More and more departments have involved into these issues in
China. We can believe glacier and glacier hazards will be paid more
attention from different institutes, and in final the cooperation will
be realized.

By the way, ICIMOD has play an important role to do glacier and
glacier hazards in deed.
