Dear Colleague,
CDE of the University of Bern and Mountain Forum are looking for support from people working on climate change or climate change management, with regard to the preparation of FAO's information note for the International Mountain Day 2007. The theme is MOUNTAINS and CLIMATE CHANGE. By taking Mountain Forum's recent publication "Melting Mountains" http://www.mtnforum.org/rs/bulletins/mf-bulletin-2007-07.pdf) to which you had contributed an article/write-up as a point of departure, we are specifically looking for practical examples of promising, or already proven, cases of climate change management in mountains! These examples could deal with any form of change management - from policy to implementation, from awareness raising to education and training, from preventive to corrective measures, etc. We are aware that we are still in the early hours relating to climate change management, but this makes this search for examples on practical solutions all the more interesting.
On the one hand, we are looking for examples which aim at reducing, or mitigating, anticipated or experienced negative impacts - this is apparent - but on the other hand we are also interested in cases which seize opportunities of anticipated, or experienced, positive impacts of climate change. It is not all doom and gloom when we speak about climate change in mountains!
Thus, we invite you all, and members of like-minded organisations, to report on such cases, examples, or initiatives, from any mountain region of the world. The length of the contribution should not exceed 200-300 words, and should ideally be accompanied by a colour picture.

Contributions or excerpts of contributions which will be used for the information note will of course be credited, featuring the names of authors and their home institutions.
