On October the 13th, Eastern Shore Forest Watch will be hosting a
presentation and discussion from Clean Nova Scotia on the timely topic of adapting to climate
changes on the Eastern Shore. Climate change is already impacting
Nova Scotia's weather, ecosystems and economy, but these effects have only just
begun. Tom MacDonald, program officer at the Clean Nova Scotia Climate
Change Centre, will summarize the current predictions for climate change on the
Eastern Shore, the impacts it has already had, and investigate the options for
adapting to the new challenges and opportunities that a changing climate
presents. The presentation begins at 7 pm at the
Mitchell Cove Commercial
and Community Centre
(former
Jeddore-Lakeville School). The event is free and everyone is
invited.
Background:
Tom MacDonald is the climate change
adaptation program officer at Climate Change Centre of Clean Nova Scotia, an
environmental education organization. In 2010, Tom has been travelling
around the province delivering climate change adaptation presentations to
communities from Yarmouth to Sydney. He also maintains the
Climate Change Centre
website, an online project which aims to provide useful tools for Nova Scotians
interested in reducing their community's carbon footprint while adapting to the
effects of climate change.
