Dear all,

Last Wednesday in Strasbourg, despite overwhelming public opposition, a majority of MEPs in the European Parliament voted to approve the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

The deal
grants unprecedented powers to multinational corporations, undermining the ability of both the EU and national governments to legislate in the public interest.

Last Wednesday, MEPs had a choice: democracy or CETA, and most chose the latter despite all the evidence presented to them. Those of you who have been following the trials and tribulations in the European Parliament in recent months and years will know that getting a majority to oppose the agreement was always going to be an uphill struggle. Therefore, last week's result will have surprised few, but it is still disappointing and we should never forget how the only directly elected EU institution failed to represent the voice of the people.

To help spread the word about which MEPs stood up for democracy and which traded it away, please join the 'Democracy or CETA?' Thunderclap scheduled for this Sunday evening.

To understand more about the vote, why CETA is a bad deal for the climate and what happens next, read the 'Story' section on the page and follow the links.

Feel free to share this invite in your networks.

Kind regards,
Geraldine
