Linking the skills and climate crisis

The depressing news about exceeding the 400 ppm milestone throws into even sharper relief the absence of a coherent skills and education strategy. Even if we had the right economic policy framework in place it couldn't be delivered by the current workforce.

Education unions and students have got to intensify their efforts to get this moved up the agenda from local to international level. At UCU Congress this month we have organised a meeting with the NUS to to explore the kind of joint initiatives needed. One of the actions we will be discussing is the divestment campaign currently being pursued in the USA.

We will need to include ways in which the different strands of the sector can work more closely with their communities to embed this within programmes of study. The Greener Jobs Alliance has recently produced a 4 minute video which highlights the opportunities for doing this.
