3 Postdoc +1 Project Scientist positions in AI, climate, and Remote Sensing

The Velicogna Research Team in the Department of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine has three immediate opening Postdoctoral Scholars and one Assistant Project Scientist to work for a transdisciplinary University of California Climate Action project to combine Earth Science, remote sensing science, AI, and Agriculture to develop a fusion outlook product that employs model forecasts, in-situ, and satellite data for forecasting sub-seasonal to seasonal (S2S) variation of California hydroclimate. The work will be conducted at UC Irvine in collaboration with UC-Agriculture and Natural Resources extension specialists, the California Department of Water Resources, farmers, and private companies. The positions are for 2 years initial appointment and renewable pending on progress.

Qualifications:

All positions require an expected or recent Ph.D. in Computer Sciences or Physical Sciences, and at least three years of programming experience in Python or other languages for developing AI/ML techniques and/or scientific applications. AI positions require demonstrated ability to analyze and provide creative solutions for technically complex problems. Climate science positions require working knowledge of climate sciences, remote sensing, and AI/ML techniques.

The Earth System Science Department at UC Irvine is highly interdisciplinary. It includes 25 faculty with broad expertise, all devoted to the study of the Earth as a coupled system. UC Irvine is located in Orange County, about halfway between the diverse metropolitan areas of Los Angeles and San Diego.
