Are you passionate about climate change, Earth Science and machine learning ? We’re offering multiple fully funded PhD positions at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry (MPI-BGC) in collaboration with the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena and other partners through the International Max Planck Research School on Global Biogeochemical Cycles.

Location: Jena, Germany
Duration: 3 years (funded)

Project Titles:

  • 🪾 Constraining Unseen Drought Impact Risks with Machine Learning and Climate Simulations (more info)

  • 🌊 Hybrid Machine Learning for Flood Prediction across Space and Time (more info)

  • ☁️ Constraining Terrestrial Biosphere Models Using Atmospheric CO2, Stable Carbon Isotope (13C), and Radiocarbon (14C) Observations (more info)

  • 🌳 Water use strategies of global tree-grass savannas during drying and rewetting soils (more info)

    Ideal candidate:
    You have a Master in Earth System Science, Earth Observation, Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Agronomy, Forestry, Geography, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent, or a related field. You’re curious, proactive, and eager to tackle complex scientific questions.
