IMT Atlantique and INRIA team Odyssey invite applications for one tenure-track Professor position (Chaire Professeur Junior) in the field of AI and Climate Extremes at:

IMT Atlantique is a leading technological university ranked in the three main international rankings (THE, SHANGHAI, QS). IMT Atlantique has privileged relationships with major industrial national and international partners, as well as a dense network of SME, start-ups and innovation networks. With 290 permanent faculty members, 2000 students among which 300 PhD students, IMT Atlantique produces every year 1000 publications and raises 18M€ of research funding. The position is opened on the Brest campus of IMT Atlantique within the Mathematical and Electrical Engineering Department (MEE). The successful candidate will join the Lab-STICC laboratory (UMR 6285) and Inria team Odyssey, (https://www.inria.fr/fr/odyssey). Odyssey gathers a unique interdisciplinary expertise at the interface of applied mathematics, artificial intelligence and ocean sciences. It addresses the scientific, industrial and societal challenges of ocean observation and modelling towards the development of the next-generation of digital twins of the oceans. Research topics of key interest include, but are not limited to, machine learning and extreme value theory, representation learning with/for OAC extremes, data-driven simulation of space-time processes with extremes, inverse problems and uncertainty quantification with extremes… The position includes a start-up package. Expected academic profileWe welcome high-profile candidates with a PhD and demonstrated contributions in the fields of AI, Data Science and/or Applied Math and related application fields (e.g., Computer Vision, Signal Processing, Remote Sensing) with a strong interest in environmental sciences. Previous experience in interdisciplinary research context, especially at the interface between machine learning and physics and/or machine learning and geoscience is a plus but not a requirement. We also welcome high-profile candidates with a PhD in the fields of earth sciences with demonstrated expertise in the exploitation and development of machine learning, applied math and/or applied statistics to address key scientific challenges.
