Dear KWIC member & friends, please take a moment to make climate a priority at the UN Climate Change Conference in Durban. If you're interested to explore the intersections between Food, Climate & Gender, the KWIC/OXFAM Working Group meets each Wednesday at 11 am in the KWIC Global Education & Resource Centre. Everyone is welcome. Tomorrow we will have a round table discussion on Perspectives with Canada World Youth volunteers, Nellie Pissuk (Nunavut) and Richard Ndendya (Tanzania) and friends.

Climate Change - It's Time to Act

The 2011 UN Climate Change Conference
Time for Canada to Act

Dear friend,

The world's governments will gather from November 28th to December 9th in Durban, South Africa for this year's UN climate summit. The stakes are high. In Africa, the changing climate is already undermining the farming and herding on which millions of people depend. You can make a difference.

The time to act on climate change is now.
Send a Message Today

Call on the Canadian government to:

  • get the Green Climate Fund agreed to at last year's summit up and running, and ensure it works for women

  • keep the promise to contribute our fair share to help vulnerable communities adapt to changes already underway

  • set a more ambitious target for reducing Canada's greenhouse gas emissions

  • support innovative sources of climate finance, including a financial transaction tax and a levy on international shipping.

Climate change is wreaking havoc in developing countries. Women produce much of Africa's food, yet often must skip meals when climate-related drought or storms destroy crops. Traditional waterholes are drying out, and women and children must walk ever farther to find water.

As one of the top ten polluters in the world, Canada has a special responsibility to act. Please send your message today calling on the Canadian government to make the Durban meeting a turning point in the fight against climate change.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Hynd
