All Hallows Eat Tonight!

KWIC-Oxfam community working group Food, Gender, Climate Change: Making Connections will be making their way around neighbourhoods in Peterborough on Halloween to collect food items for donation. Have your fresh and non-perishable food items for the ready! All food collected will be donated to Kawartha Food Share. If you are interested in taking part in this event, meet at Tim Horton's at 875 Chemong Rd. Peterborough, ON between 5-9pm (someone will be there all evening to get you hooked up with other volunteers already out collecting).
STOP HARPER! An Evening with Bridgette DePape:

Bridgette DePape, a Canadian Senate Page stood in protest during the throne speech of the Government of Canada in the Senate, silently holding up a sign that said, "Stop Harper!" She will be speaking about the arts, youth, and the future of Canada. Free with live music and community group presentations. Everyone welcome.
Convergence: KWIC on Trent Radio:

ECO-PIRATE: The Story of Paul Watson:

KWIC in partnership with OPIRG and Reframe Film Festival are hosting a screening of Eco-Pirates followed by a moderated discussion with Gavin Fridell, chair of Political Science at Trent University. Soupfest for United Way Community Bulletin:

An Evening with Vietnam Veteran and Peace Activist S. Brian Willson:

S. Brian Willson is a Vietnam veteran and peace activist. In September 1987, Willson lost both his legs when he was run over by a U.S. government munitions train during a nonviolent blocking action. He recently published a memoir, Blood on the Tracks. Join them for an evening of food and conversation with S. Brian Willson, and get an update on the most recent developments in the campaign to win asylum in Canada for Iraq War resisters.

22nd Margaret Laurence Lecture:

The Laurence Lecture brings to Trent a distinguished speaker to address a topic related to Margaret Laurence’s own intellectual and political passions: women’s involvement in peace, ecology, literature and feminism. She is interested in the intersection of religion and politics and she has taught feminist theologies in Jamaica and Peterborough at the academic and popular levels. In her lecture at Trent she will speak on “Women and God-Talk: Feminist Theologies Challenge Patriarchy”.
Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan Fundraising Dinner:

Join the Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan in Celebration of empowering Afghan women to change their world. A dinner with Middle Eastern foods, music, and speakers to support teacher training and salaries. Tickets available at Titles bookstore for $25 per person and $15 for student.

Heritage Pavilion Stage invites you to attend "A Journey of Remembrance", an innovative community theatrical presentation about "war as seen from the home front", to celebrate Remembrance Week 2011, at Market Hall. Gasland Documentary:

Where: Sadleir House
This film exposes the hazards of gas drilling. Flammable tap water, is but a part of the results of an expanding drilling campaign that has created catastrophic human, animal and environmental damage. This is ‘frack baby frack’. Afrobana:

Afrobana is a production of the Trent African and Caribbean Student Union which brings to the Peterborough community a taste of the African and Caribbean cultures which have become such an integral part in our community.A plethora of African and Caribbean cultures will be showcased which includes dance, song, spoken word, dramas and instrumentals. Allow yourself to embark on a journey where you are not only captivated by a culture that is so rivetting but your emotions will be taken on a roller coaster while being educated of African and Caribbean cultures. Tickets cost $10 and are available at the door and at Bata library at Trent.
Restorative Justice Week Event:

As part of National Restorative Justice Week, the Peterborough Restorative Practices Network invites you to an evening with Mark Yantzi, one of the founders of the modern restorative justice movement in Canada. Mr. Yantzi holds a BA in sociology and MA.Sc in Human Relations and Counselling and is currently a professor at Queen’s University in their Restorative Justice Program. Mark Yantzi spearheaded the first official victim-offender mediation case in Canada over 30 years ago.
