Upcoming Events and News from 23 September, 2010

1.NCC Social and Fundraiser for Pakistan
When: TODAY! September 23rd, 6:00-8:30pm
Where: Silver Bean Café: Millennium Park
Join us for a community gathering. We will be collecting cash donations
for the Canadian Red Cross Society and Tax Receipts will be issued.
Light refreshments will be provided. Children welcome as there will be
face painting, henna and other activities. Organized by New Canadians
Centre in collaboration with Community & Race Relations and Kawartha
World Issues Centre. Please join us to welcome also Peterborough's new
Canada World Youth participants from Canada and Tanzania!

2.Racialized Space
When: Friday, September 24, 2010 at 1:00-2:00
Where: Sadlier House, Lecture Hall (751 George Street, Peterborough,
ON)
In this interactive workshop we will discuss issues around the
racialization of space, including locating Peterborough as a racialized
space on Indigenous lands, and examining the (in)accessibility of public
space in Peterborough to international students, newcomers and people of
colour.

3. Decolonizing Gender and Sexuality
When: Friday, September 24, 2010 at 3:00-4:00
Where: Sadlier House, lawn (751 George Street, Peterborough, ON)
Come and join us for a discussion on gender, sexuality and what
decolonization means to you! Depending on participant interest, we will
touch on issues such as queer movements, identity categories, and
alternative (read non-Western) approaches to understanding gender and
sexuality.

4. World Issues Open House
When: Wednesday, September 29th, 2010 Drop-In from 11am to 2pm
Where: KWIC/ERS Global Education and Resource Centre, Trent University,
East Bank in the Environmental Sciences Building, Room B101

5. The North at Trent 2010 Lecture Series
When: September 29th, 2010 at 7:30 pm
Where: Bagnani Lecture Hall, Traill College London Street
What: The story behind the book' Polar Imperative: A History of Arctic
Sovereignty in North America'. Reception will follow the talk.

The Peterborough and District Labour Council will be hosting their
annual Labour Appreciation Night on Friday October 22, 2010 at the
Knights of Columbus Hall.

2.SUPPORT BILL C-440: Let U.S. Iraq War resisters stay in Canada -
URGENT!
In one week, Parliament will debate and vote on Second Reading of Bill
C-440 (war resisters). It's time to put an end to over six years of
interference by the government, and have the will of the two-thirds
majority of Canadians respected, allowing U.S. Iraq War resisters to
stay in Canada.

3.United Way of Peterborough & District provides Youth Grants
Applications due 1st October, 2010 at 4:00 pm
Once again here we are preparing for the new school year. As you may
know, the United Way of Peterborough & District provides Youth Grants to
students age 14-19 interested in taking on a community based
project/event or program. This program empowers youth to improve their
