We're excited to be back. The fall always brings renewed passion and
new volunteers and it's been energizing to meet everyone these past
couple of weeks.
The KWIC World Issues Open House is an annual fall event and a great
way for seasoned and new volunteers to mingle, and find out more about
volunteer opportunities with KWIC. We hope you will drop by to say hello
and enjoy a cup of warm apple cider between 11 and 2pm, next Wednesday.
Our Open House is held is collaboration with Sustainable Trent!
Volunteers: Volunteers are an integral part of KWIC: the effectiveness
of our work depends on them! KWIC is currently welcoming volunteers who
wish to participate in working groups (Food, Climate Change, One World
Dinner, Global Youth Day, etc), assist with special events and
workshops, on the air with Trent Radio, fundraising …the possibilities
are many, so please come and talk to us!
KWIC Board of Directors: KWIC is currently seeking new directors from
the Trent University and larger Peterborough communities for the coming
year (November to June). If you have experience in human resources,
fundraising, volunteer engagement and/or a passion for social and
environmental justice, wed like to hear from you. Please send your cover
letter and resume to kw...@trentu.ca to the attention of the Nomination
Committee.

Communications Assistant: We'd like to welcome Gemma Edwin to KWIC
staff. Gemma volunteered with KWIC last year and is now working

Up & Coming KWIC Sponsored Events:
1. Thursday September 23 - Fundraiser for Pakistan: As many as 20
million people have been affected by the floods in the regions of
North-West Frontier Province, Punjab and Sindh. An estimated 4 million
people alone are homeless and the rainy season is expected to continue
into September.
To raise funds for the relief efforts, the New Canadian Centre has
organized a social event and fundraiser at the Silver Bean from
6:00-8:30pm. Light refreshments will be provided. Children are welcome
as there will be face-painting, henna and childrens activities. (We've
heard the new Canada World Youth participants will also be there!)
Receipts can be issued for cash and cheque donations to the Canadian Red
Cross Society. This event is organised with the support of the Kawartha
World Issues Centre and the Community and Race Relations Committee of
Peterborough.
2. September 23-26 Trent Temagami Weekend at Camp Wanapitei
An amazing wilderness camp on Lake Temagami north of North Bay.
Participate in educational workshops, hikes, square dancing, canoeing
and enjoy great food and the beautiful Canadian outdoors. Registration
forms at KWIC or www.wanapitei.net. Registration is limited and on a
first come, first serve basis.
3. September 29th KWIC World Issues Open House. Drop in from 11 am to 2
pm
4. October 18th: Peterborough Persons Day Breakfast mark the date.
Tickets in advance from KWIC, YWCA and COIN. Doors open at 6:30am.
Breakfast at 7am. Organized by the Peterborough Women's Events
Committee.
