The proposed October set of workshops based on the book *Environmental
Lobbying at the United Nations*
<https://www.routledge.com/Environmental-Lobbying-at-the-United-Nations-A-Guide-to-Protecting-Our-Planet/Dodds-Spence/p/book/9781032597461>
will now take place on the *mornings of January 26th and February
2nd, 2026* (New York time). We did this based on feedback from those
engaged in COP and UNEA in November and December.

More details will be provided in future newsletters, including registration
information and payment details. The registration cost will be $589 for
individuals from NGOs in developed countries and $240 for those from
developing countries. Email me at fe...@felixdodds.net with the subject
line – *Capacity Building Workshop January * – if you have any other
questions.

If your organization — or a group of organizations — would like me to run a
private version, please contact me. The workshops will cover the contents
of my book, which you can view here.

A new report, edited by *Felix Dodds and Chris Spence* and published
by *Stakeholder
Forum for a Sustainable Future, *has been released: *“UN80: Reform of the
Multilateral Environmental Agreements: Around the Triple Planetary Crisis
of Pollution, Biodiversity and Climate Change”.*
<https://stakeholderforum.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/SDG-2030-Series-Report-No-5-Clustering-MEAs.pdf>
The report has a reflection by former UNEP Executive Director *Liz
Dowdeswell.*

The approach is to build on the work of clustering environmental
conventions started by *Klaus Toepfer* when he was the Executive Director
of UNEP and continued with success by *Achim Steiner* when he was Executive
Director of UNEP creating the super COP on chemicals and waste, which
provides a proof of concept that we could rally around for the other parts
of the Triple Planetary Crisis of climate change, biodiversity, and
chemicals and waste. Achim Steiner went on, as you know, to initiate the
process of clustering the biodiversity convention, which his successor did
not continue.

With the UN 80 Initiative suggesting that the UNFCCC be placed under UNEP,
the possibility of revisiting the idea of clustering MEAs has been reopened.

The report collects articles that appeared in the Inter Press Service over
the past two months:

were published.

⏳ 2025 Outlook

This year will feature key global moments shaping the future of sustainable
development:
*✅* Second World Summit on Social Development
<https://felixdodds.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=64b194440ceea1f72a0f2e161&id=d7572f7758&e=c7dba9e7b3>*
(November
4-6)*
*✅* COP 30 Belem <https://cop30.br/pt-br> *(10-21st November)*
*✅* UN Environment Assembly 7
<https://felixdodds.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=64b194440ceea1f72a0f2e161&id=ceea907b3b&e=c7dba9e7b3>*
(December
8-12)*

The world continues to face mounting challenges on climate and
sustainability, especially due to recent shifts in U.S. policy. Rather than
accelerating toward a 1.5-degree world, we must begin to confront what a
2–2.5-degree world will look like — and adjust policies accordingly.

COP30 and UNEA 7 offer critical opportunities to consolidate, regroup, and
push for genuine progress on the SDGs, climate action, and biodiversity.

Warmest regards,
Felix Dodds

It also must confront the unseen costs of malnutrition, displacement, poverty and neglect, and to do so with rigor, compassion, and imagination.

In Asia and the Pacific, childhood obesity has for the first time outpaced undernourishment.
