Client’s returns were e-filed on 3/27/24. IRS refund has not been received to date. Where’s My Refund tool continues to show that return has been received and is in process. We are 9 days short of 4 moths with no other communication from the IRS. Anyone else experiencing similar delays. Client’s return is relatively straight forward MFJ, 2 dependents filer is W-2 wages, spouse has small Sch C for a hairdresser. No credits estimated taxes paid on time.

Hesitant to call as IRS website says calling gets no results other than that shown on  Where’s My Refund tool as agents see the same info.

THOUGHTS?

I have lots of clients who filed 3 -5 months ago and are still waiting for their refund and haven't received any correspondence on the subject.

Larry and Jan THANKS.  I’m assuming you are in the same situation of “wait and see”? I don’t think I have ever had  client experience this type of delay with no communication

The IRS website says that refunds might be delayed if they are claiming EITC or Child Tax Credit

I had the same situation - return e-filed 3/12/24, a very simple MFJ return with a small refund.  Client got upset after six weeks no refund, and Where's My Refund showed "IN PROCESS".  I called IRS main number and did speak to some one who told me the return was in the "Error Resolution Department".  They didn't see an error so said it might be a "system error", and needs 10 weeks to get through the system (from date of filing). Agent told me to wait the full 10 weeks and if no refund or letter, then call back at that time.

No refund after 10 weeks.  This time I called TP Advocate, who said she was making a formal referral to the Error Resolution Dept and that the T/P should hear something in 60 days.  She gave me a Case Number.  Client received their refund about four weeks later.

So, I was impressed with what TP Advocate did.  It's possible that without the call, it would still be sitting at the Error Resolution Department with no one knowing why it was there.

THANKS Eileen. Might need to call them tomorrow. This really does not make any sense.

None for one client - nothing special- he’s over 80.  It should not take so long for some of these.
