Client got his social security retirement records and many years were missing because client filed his return late for the last 10 years he is self employed.
He has always filed an extension and filed the returns by 10/15 for example - 1040-2016 was filed by certified mail on 10/15/2020 he paid the tax due for late filing etc. so were all the other years in question.
He took the missing years records to the Social Security Office with copies of all the 1040 returns filed and proof of payments/and certified mailing to IRS and print outs from the IRS verifying his earnings
He filed a statement with Social Security to record all the missing years which they claim they did and that they were forwarded to the IRS electronically.
Now he was told that the IRS replied and that they have no such records of his earnings.
How to we know if they did forward them to the IRS?
Does this makes any sense?
As per social security " time limit for correcting earnings records"
An earnings record can be corrected at any time up to three years, three months and 15 days after the year in which the wages were paid or the self-employment income was derived.
So they don't recognize the filing day of 10/15 but IRS collects the tax/penalty and interest.
Does anyone in the community has any knowledge or whom to contact to help this client.
Thanks for anyone who can help.
