Query masking rules

Hi Community,

I am going through following documentation for query masking rules and i have a very basic question  :

As per this, the Regexp-based rules are applied to "queries as well as all log messages before storing them in server logs". 

Does this also mean that the result from the SELECT query will also be replaced by the masking rule?
