Hi Steven
Thanks for checking us out. Let me see if I can help.
In normal operation (ie. the floppy disk icon is green) any notes you create are immediately saved to Google Drive. So if you create a folder called "recipes", and a note therein called "carbonara", then in your Google Drive you will see CleverNote/recipe/carbonara. Try looking in the "recent" display at
https://drive.google.com/a/clevernote.co/?tab=mo#recent
The only time that notes are not immediately saved to Drive would be if you are operating offline, ie. the floppy icon is orange. In that case, they will be stored on your local PC, and synced to Drive when you switch from offline (orange) to online (blue). If you are offline (orange) you should see a button "Pending Drive updates" which is a list of folders and notes you have created offline which have not yet synced up to Drive.
Could you let me have a little more detail about which mode you are working in?
When you say " connect CleverNote to my GoogleDrive account", your CleverNote account *is* your Drive account so there is no connection to do. Whereas some note services have their own account and storage, Catch or Evernote for example, with CleverNote you are only ever using your Google account and your Google Drive for storage.
The error message you have seen is I guess a consequence of trying to create a new CleverNote from Drive. This isn't something we support, as we haven't yet found a user interaction that we're comfortable with. We are unfortunately limited by the integration features that Drive offers. Of course we need to do better than display that ugly error message, so we'll get that sorted straight away.
The way we designed CleverNote to function was very much that
www.clevernote.co would be an alternative to
drive.google.com as your primary user interface for notes. So even thought they are stored in your Drive, and can be accessed from Drive, a lot of the CleverNote functionality is lost. The best way to think about it, would be to consider a corner of your Drive estate (that bit under the CleverNote folder) as being reserved for access by CleverNote, and not to use
Drive.google.com. This allows us to operate without access permissions to your entire Drive estate.
We are currently putting the finishing touches to Beta 3 of CleverNote, which as well as fixing a few bugs, also provides support for our upcoming Android client. As a new user, it might be worth your while starting off with Beta 3. Let me know if you'd like me to send you details on how to access Beta 3.
I hope this helps some. Please do get back to me with the additional info, and any other concerns and we'll get you up and running.
with kind regards
Lyn
