Hi All,

Just a reminder, our monthly scheduled meeting will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, September 10th at 5:30PM (pizza and drinks) with the discussion beginning at 6:00PM (see map for meeting location: http://www.clevelandjava.org/map.html).

I thought we might consider a 'reset' after the 'Summer Break' to review our objectives (as summarized from our 'first' meeting):

Meeting Content
  • Recommendation was made to include interactive presentations
    • Might require pre-work
  • Meeting structure may include open discussions, news updates, old business.
  • Sub-groups may be formed to address certain topics:
    • Java Certification
    • Java Beginners
    • Bounty Projects (group to develop apps for outside entities)
  • Cross-pollination with other groups welcome (DB Users Group, Linux Users Group, etc.)
  • Best practices or lessons learned discussions
  • Tools and frameworks for successful projects
  • Additional topics for upcoming meetings (other topic recommendations being excepted):
    • MySQL, LAMP, JBoss and other Open Source Projects
    • RIA
    • Java Game Development
    • OSGi and JSR Alternatives
    • GWT
    • UI Design

So the agenda will look like this:
  • Eat, Drink, Network (5:30-6:00 PM)
  • Old Business/New Business (6:00-6:15 PM)
  • Java User Group 'Reset'
Hope to see you there!

Scott

Just wondering how many users you guys average? I am the co manager of
the Cleveland ColdFusion User Group and I am looking to pick up a new
language. For someone trying to pick up a new language would I get
anything out of the meeting?

Hi Dan,

In fact, one of the items we are considering is a 'program' to mentor
those new to the Java language. We have a diversity of experience in
the group, so our intent is to build competency levels so that
everyone can benefit from the topics we explore on a monthly basis.
