In 1984, Strongsville businessman Don Kruger, along with a local Cleveland artist, Cliff Clay, made a connection with an inventor in Columbus who wanted to form a statewide inventor group with chapters in each of the major cities. The organizational meeting they called was held at Cleveland State University and was attended by about 50 people. Some of those people left their names to receive more information.
Don (with the help of his wife, Mary Ann) sent out mail to those people for meetings held in Don's Strongsville office, where a dozen folks sat around in a circle and laid the groundwork for ICGC. The group, with Don as its president, became the first chapter in the statewide organization, but soon broke away from the state group over concerns about the parent group's not paying its bills. At the end of each meeting, the small group of attendees would hand-address envelopes to facilitate mailing meeting announcements to others who had shown interest in such a group, and one envelope to themselves.
Eventually, ICGC outgrew Don's office and began meeting in other venues.
Thus, ICGC, owes a large debt of gratitude to Don and Mary Ann Krueger for its very existence.
