Dear All,
I am short words to describe the event that has just befallen
us. I know it is devastating and shocking to you all as we are. An even darker cloud
hovers over the Diocese of Northern Malawi, the Mwamasi family and the Parish
of St. Ambrose, with the devastating news of the death of Fr. Clement Mwamasi,
the only son of late Fr.John Mwamasi and
his wife whom I have just confirmed this sad news a couple of hours ago. As you
are all aware, Fr. Clement Mwamasi stayed at home with his family after the burial
his father Fr. John Mwamasi last Saturday. His father also died a sudden due to
HBP. This morning as I was saying Mass at St. Ambrose I saw a white minibus
come close to the church. Fr. Clement came out to bid farewell to some members
and deliver a letter to one of the members Mr. Manda and in no time off they
went. This was about 9:30am. At about 3pm roomers started reaching us that a
minibus suspected to be the one in which Fr. Clement and his family were
travelling was involved in a terrible accident near Hara on its way to Mzuzu. We
rushed to the hospital and the first group of survivors of the accident arrived
among them his sister Mather about 16 clearly shocked suffered major injury in
both legs and sustained other minor injuries. She was able to speak. Fr. Clément’s only daughter about three was
also in shock but in a more stable condition and she is discharged. His wife
was in a very critical condition and shortly doctors failed to save her life
and passed away soon after arrival at the Hospital. We were told that almost
three people died on the spot. Hence we feared for the worst. Indeed when the
bodies arrived at the hospital we confirmed Fr. Clelment Mwamasi was among
those who died on the scene of the accident. The sad news has been communicated to the
family. The shock to all of us especially the bereaved family who are still in
the moaning period cannot be described. Indeed a very dark cloud covers our
Diocese. This indescribable misfortunate has made all of us confused.
I last spoke to Fr. Clement last friday when I revisited the family. Arrangements
will be communicated in due course.
Let us all pray for the souls of our beloved whom we shall
all miss, the bereaved family and quick recovery for the survivors. May all the
souls rest in eternal peace.
