To all those interested in playing for ROMA ULTIMA during the 2012 pre-season, season, and USAU Club Series.....
This email is to serve as an informational tool for those who are interested in trying out for the team this year. It explains our overall team vision, core values, and playing opportunities. Please pass this email along to anyone who has an interest in our program......
Vision Statement: (why we exist)
ROMA's vision is to have a positive impact on it's team members, the opponents we face, and the Ultimate community as a whole as a competitive ultimate team in the Southeast Region of the U.S.
Team Core Values
1. Brotherhood - a 'team-first mentality;, the attitude we want to instill and cultivate for the team; individual players are willing to sacrifice personal needs and desires for the needs and success of the team's vision; we want to be more than just a team of random guys who have Ultimate as the one thing in common; we want to be more than just a group of friends who play Ultimate; we will be a group of men who have a genuine care and concern for their teammates; we want to recognize that although we have different roles on the team, every role is equally important and valued; this speaks to knowing your job/role on the team and performing it to the best one's ability for the sake of the team
2. Self-Discipline - encompasses self-control with other teammates and opponents; speaks to consistency in fitness training, knowing the rules of our sport, self-sacrifice for the good of the team, and being present and punctual at Roma events; self-discipline speaks to the commitment to everyone on the team and recognizing that they are counting on you for this season; in moments where things get heated, stressful, or intense, self-control will set apart Roma from other teams as we keep level heads and discipline ourselves to hold fast to the core values.
3. Intensity - 100% effort at all times; this happens during workouts, at practice, tournament play, and any time when you have the opportunity to make a play on the field; this will also help determine who deserves to play and when; intensity is not a substitute for grace with each other's shortcomings, but instead speaks to how we can show our commitment to each other through constantly giving our all for the benefit of the team
Mini Camps:
In the past two seasons we have been fairly spread out between GA and TN. This year we will do our best to host local practices; however, we are going to use mini camps as our main time to focus on chemistry, offense and defense. Planned mini camps this year will be
Saturday, May 19th (field location TBD, Atlanta)
July Mini-Camp (date TBD)
*Early August Mini- Camp (team tryouts)
Our plan right now is to begin finalizing our roster after the August try-out. Those who make the team will play together at Furniture City, Shawn Adams, Sectionals, & Regionals.
Tournaments we will attend in 2012:
Mudbowl (June 16-17, Birmingham, AL)
Huckfest (July 14-15, Huntsville, AL) -or- Club Terminus (July 21-22, Atlanta, GA)
Furniture City Shootout (August, High Point, NC)
Shawn Adams (Sept 1-2, Chattanooga, TN)
USAU Club Sectionals (typically 2 weekends after Shawn Adams, 3rd weekend of september)
USAU Club Regionals (dates/location TBA)
so......how do I make the team this year???
