Subject: Participate in our Injury Study! (Please)
To:
bsl...@clemson.eduHey Clemson Ultimate,
Last season we received a USA Ultimate
Grant to conduct an injury study during the 2011 college season. Over 60
teams from the Open and Women’s division participated. Through teams’
weekly reports we collected lots of meaningful data that will be used to
calculate injury rates. We’ve gotten approval to continue collecting
injury data through the 2012 season and we’re hoping we can add your
team our list! The more data we collect, the better.
Some more info about the 2012 study:
- Each team will choose a team representative who will be in charge of submitting injuries on a weekly basis through SurveyMonkey.
- The
team representative will keep track of 1) the number of practices/games
for each week, 2) average number of players per practice/game, 3)
injured body parts, 4) the way the injury occurred, and 5) the
diagnosis.
- A reminder email will be sent every Sunday and the team
representative will be responsible for logging the injuries that
occurred during the previous week.
- Data entry will take
approximately 5 minutes, but we do want to make sure that accurate data
is kept throughout the week about the number of people at practice and
the injuries that occur. You can keep track of this in whatever way you
choose. Last year some participants kept their own spreadsheets, others
took hard copy notes, and some [very talented] individuals were able to
keep everything straight in their heads. Whatever you decide, we're
trusting you for accuracy!
- The first day of data entry will be Sunday, February 5th so the
first week includes January 30 through February 5th. The study goes
through Nationals or the end of your season (but we hope it's
Nationals!).
-
The privacy of your players will be strictly protected and no names will
be recorded with the injuries. Specific details about teams will not
be seen by anyone except those collecting data.
We hope
you’re willing to be a part of our study! This is a very simple way to
give back to the greater Ultimate community as the data we collect will
be used to calculate injury rates and develop injury prevention
programs.
Let me know if you guys are in and who your rep will be (and their email)!
Cheers,
Anna Nazarov
