Integrating Beatport Streaming with rekordbox is really quick and easy and gives you access to your locally stored music alongside the full Beatport catalog. This includes all your playlists created in Beatport DJ, the Beatport store and mobile app, as well as ready made playlists and charts.
Beatport Streaming works with any rekordbox version from 6.0.1 and later and you will need a rekordbox dj license. This will allow you to access the performance key features and let you perform with compatible Pioneer DJ gear. For more information on rekordbox plans available, click here.
From version 6.7.3 onwards, DJs that have a rekordbox Creative or Professional plan can save their metadata such as cue points and waveform analysis to the cloud using CloudDirectPlay. They can then access this data within the CDJ-3000 integration on their Beatport Streaming tracks. For those using the CDJ-3000s without a rekordbox Creative or Professional plan, metadata is automatically stored locally on the USB or SD card they are using to authenticate their Beatport Streaming account.
Beatport Streaming is the only streaming service that allows DJs to store music offline for playback without an internet connection. To add tracks to your offline library, follow these simple steps:
Streaming Radar is a new feature that also leans into streaming by analysing your music for characteristics like atmosphere and genre, and recommending tracks that are similar beyond your own collection on streaming platforms like SoundCloud, TIDAL DJ and Beatport Streaming. rekordbox will then recommend similar tracks if you are subscribed to said service. There is also now a dual-player view in Export mode, so you can try out compatible mixes without moving to performance mode.
Whether you use Serato or rekordbox DJ software, FLX10 is equipped with powerful stem-splitting capability via color-coded VOCAL, DRUMS and INST buttons to control each element. Beyond individually adjusting volume levels for each stem, you can utilize FX Part Select to add your chosen effect to any element of the song. Alternatively, you could isolate a track element and assign it to another deck to scratch it. The possibilities for real-time remixes and mashups are endless.
All the evidence suggests that a little bit of advance preparation and backups can effectively eliminate failures. I spoke to a range of DJs for their input, including Simone de Kunovich, Noncompliant, Noah Pred, Kyle Geiger, and Jamaica Suk.
Note that you can reset analysis via Track > Analyze Track, and lock the analyzed tempo (or input tempo, if you manually enter it instead) via Track > Analysis Lock > On. (These are also available by right-clicking.)
USB failures can be caused by physical problems on the drive, rekordbox database corruption, and the use of incompatible volume names, volume formatting, or incompatible files. All of these are preventable through a combination of preparation and backups.
FAT32 or FAT is the best solution for formatting with compatibility across computer platforms and any generation of CDJ. Using other formatting can cause issues. This means FAT32 is your likely go-to on both Mac (with Disk Utility) or Windows (with Disk Management). Many off-the-shelf USB flash drives will come preformatted for FAT32 for the same reason, maximizing compatibility.
Now falling under the AlphaTheta brand (previously Pioneer DJ), rekordbox 7 has a refreshed GUI and a new Media Browser. This now has an icon view rather than a tree view for faster access to tracks in your music collection.
Other new features include intelligent, automatic cue creation when you add a track, a Dual Player layout so that you can assess the compatibility of tracks, and a Column View that gives you a hierarchical method of searching folders and files and selecting and navigating through playlists and tracks. Collaborative playlists - which can contain BPM, grid and cue point information - are now a thing, too, so DJs can share their thinking/working with others.
rekordbox 7 can be downloaded now for free, and subscription plans - which add more features and cloud storage space depending on how much you pay - start at 7 a month. The Dual Player layout, Collection Filter, Column View, and other paid features added in this update are available free of charge when DJ equipment eligible for owner registration is registered to an AlphaTheta account via rekordbox 7.
