The Sun the Moon and the stars are ever present in our songs. They seem
to provide a backdrop of descriptive expression for love songs, battle songs,
comic songs and others; frequently in the background but almost never the point
of focus. We invite you to join us in acknowledging and celebrating the
presence of the heavens in out culture in this night dedicated to the heavenly
bodies.
The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the endless skies, my love
To the dark and the endless skies
~ Ewan McColl
We’ll sing a song, a soldier’s song
With cheering, rousing chorus
As round our blazing fires we throng,
The starry heavens o’er us;
Impatient for the coming fight,
And as we wait the mornings light
here in the silence of the night
We’ll chant a soldier’s song.
~ Peadar Kearney (The Soldier’s Song)
