12th June: The spirit of adventure
Fear a tí: Paddy daly
2013 marks the 20th anniversary of the first Irish Everest
expedition. The intrepid team of Irish explorers, which included our own Frank
Nugent, climbed the north side of the mountain. This achievement comes as no
surprise to those who are familiar with the Irish and their habit of making
themselves at home in all manner of climates and conditions.
Now the summer seems to have once again reluctantly made its presence felt on
our little wet island, many Clé Club regulars are preparing to sally forth once
again into the wide world to undertake adventures in foreign lands, bringing
with them our music and craic, only to return again with tall tales to tell.
We salute the spirit of the Everest expedition and all the other brave
explorers past. Present and future with celebration of the brave, the heroic
and the sometimes unbelievable things people do.
It's the spirit of adventure and the longing for to roam
that makes so many Irishmen to leave their native home
Some say it is for want of work that we are on the road
but we're only over here for exploration
