Club Gaeilge
Spiddal, County Galway
Dear friends,
We have reached a point that brings to mind that famous song from the Great Depression… Buddy Can You Spare a Dime?
In our case we’re hoping for a little more – how about a fiver?
Thanks to all who have supported our project, Club Gaeilge is thriving. Our purpose was to set up a regular setting, casual and informal, where newcomers could learn the language in an informal and sociable setting, supplementary to formal classes.
The club has been well attended from the start and interest is growing as we get the word out. There has been a marked improvement in the standard of Irish of those who regularly attend, and we are hopeful that this club could grow into an invaluable resource in preserving and promoting the Irish language.
We feel that it is important to be inclusive and our events are free to everyone. All the administration is done voluntarily, but we depend heavily on donations, mainly to pay for high-quality facilitators, but also for paper, ink, books, games and other educational material and expenses and, since we have so far had no grants nor official subsidy of any kind, the club has been in debt since we started. We have set up a crowdfunding campaign to try to cover our costs, but if we don't reach our target of €2,000 by 18th July we don't get a penny of it, and it is likely we will have to suspend the club until we can find another source of funding.
At this time we are calling on all our good friends who support our goals to make a small contribution (€5 minimum) and ask others to do the same.

We are very grateful to all who have contributed so far and look forward to seeing you all at our club events in Spiddal.
Regards,
