The Anxiety is a collaborative studio album by American musicians Willow Smith and Tyler Cole, under the band name The Anxiety. The project was released by the duo on March 13, 2020, by MSFTSMusic and Roc Nation. While the album didn't chart at the time of its release it entered the charts in late 2021 after album track "Meet Me at Our Spot" became a sleeper hit on TikTok. It became Cole's first ever charting album and Willow's first charting album in Canada.

Willow Smith and Tyler Cole have been romantic partners and artistic collaborators for several years.[1][2] Prior to The Anxiety, Cole co-produced her 2019 self-titled album. The band released their debut single "Hey You!" on February 28, 2020.[3]

In promotion of the project, Smith and Cole staged a performance art piece at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles on March 11, 2020, wherein the duo were locked in a glass box for 24 hours and were not allowed to speak to each other. One wall was clear for the audience to view, with the other three covered in canvas for the duo to write affirmations on. The performance is meant to convey the eight stages of anxiety (paranoia, rage, sadness, numbness, euphoria, strong interest, compassion and acceptance) with each stage lasting three hours.[2] The performance was seen as topical due to it occurring just days before COVID-19 lockdowns in the United States.[4]

The Anxiety is a punk,[5] indie rock,[5] alternative rock,[2] dream pop,[5] and progressive rock[4] album. The album's first half largely consists of "uptempo rhythms and punchy riffs", dabbles in lo-fi around the middle, and the second half contains "pensive R&B and drone-like ballads".[6][4] Lyrically, the album tackles themes of anxiety, rage, panic attacks, and government corruption.[4]

I have anxiety isaues and get panic attacks and I find it good to listen to music to calm down. Kid A always helps especially ho to dissapear comepletly amd neach house teen dream(sorry for spelling fails)

Autre Ne Veut's self-titled debut was the epitome of fringe back in 2010: someone with an unwieldy handle and a staunch commitment to anonymity making warped approximations of 1980s and 90s R&B on a label that primarily trafficked in lo-fi curiosities. By the time Arthur Ashin revealed himself in 2012, all of those characteristics had become basic tools of indie rock buzzmaking. Though prevailing trends have positioned Autre Ne Veut closer to the center of discussion, he remains quite outré on new album Anxiety. The cover no longer bears a replication of Edvard Munch's The Scream, but he kept Anxiety as the album title*;* you can't say he didn't warn you about him losing his cool time and time again on his marvelous and moving second LP.

It could certainly be a turn-off, or at least criticized as "oversinging." But the demonstrative nature of Autre Ne Veut is pretty much the point, and as with collaborator and peer How to Dress Well, it has as much in common with Broadway as it does with R&B; you imagine he's drawn to this style of music because it's a means to a kind of spiritual transcendence that most rock music isn't particularly interested in. So it's understandable that "Ego Free Sex Free" becomes something of a mantra for Anxiety. On its face, it's a curious slogan-- typically, we prefer pop stars to indulge in ego and certainly avail themselves of carnality. But judging from Ashin's explanation regarding the song's inspiration, you can see what he means by it, how the neediness of the self can stand in the way of true and meaningful connection. Yes, it's completely corny and I'm pretty sure it's the reasoning behind every nudist colony. And yet, it fits within the context of Anxiety, an album where Ashin fearlessly reveals himself as a person and an artist and dares you to open up in the same way.

For his first studio album, Morimoto re-wrote his demos for a band to record them at Friends of Friends Studio with producer/engineer Brok Mende, rather than play all the instruments himself or swap parts via emails.

Ox. Sanchez is an established multidisciplinarian. With a degree in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, their overall creative practice is expansive and intricately interwoven. Anxiety Dreams is accompanied by a collage series, which synaesthetically translates some of the themes of the album into visuals. In these images, we see Sanchez themself digitally modified, duplicated, overlapping their own lyrics and environment.

Ox. Sanchez has crafted a concise and sincere album which is not only beautiful in lyric and composition, but thinks toward the future of how albums, and music, can break apart conventions and surpass our expectations.

Anxiety Replacement Therapy is the biggest release of the week on both physical formats and digital downloads, and also tops the Official Record Store Chart as the best-selling album of the past seven days in independent UK record shops.

Brooklyn-formed alt-rock collective The National claim their fifth UK Top 10 album with First Two Pages of Frankenstein (4), with the record also landing at Number 1 on the Official Vinyl Albums Chart.
