Haven't heard a peep out of this group in awhile. It must mean CLEAR
has completely solved all of its problems!

The severe outages and tower issues that inspired the creation of this
group have continued, but things are relatively better than before---
simply b/c my CLEAR connection is out of the critical path. My
conclusion is that CLEAR is not a reliable 24x7 option, nor is its
speed available as advertised when the system is actually fully
functional in a given area. But when it works and is not crippled by
bandwidth policy, it is nice.

I need 99.9% uptime. So, for now I have gone back to DSL and am using
it simultaneously with my "unlimited" CLEAR service through a Cisco/
Linksys RV042 router I bought on eBay. It was not easy to configure,
but now I have both connections available to all LAN clients. The
router balances the traffic (which means my CLEAR connection handles
most of it when it is up and running). When the CLEAR connection drops
or slows down, the DSL line gets more or all of the traffic.

One other note: CLEAR tech support was actually helpful in configuring
my Series M into what is, essentially, an undocumented bridged mode.
The RV042 has other quirks which I had to learn on my own, but now it
all seems to work (sans RDP through the CLEAR connection, which I am
still troubleshooting).

Umm...wow...you pay for two different internet providers at the same
time...?

Screw that - I'm ready to tell Clear to kiss my butt...I just got off
the phone with one of their reps that, as far as I could tell, was
stoned out of his mind.

Don't get me wrong - I'm behind the legalization effort...but this
asshole was pretty much laughing in our faces about how we want to
utilize the internet to express ourselves. I guess he thought we
intended to make money doing it - which is not at all the purpose. We
use the internet to actually do real jobs - like, the productive
kind...that we get paid for...the blogging is just a hobby - which we
hope will benefit society in some small way.

Clear needs to get their act together...we're knocking on AT&T's door
again...wondering what they have to offer - because of this.
