I would like to drive to Portland from Saint Helens, and pick up a couple of boxes of IFB and a couple of CWT of fireclay, some ballclay and grog, enough for a good test run for my converted mortar mixer. I don't know Portland at all, although I did solicit the following reply a few years ago from Craig Martell-

"The company on Swan Island is C.H. Murphy. They have all kinds of refractories and some are inexpensive as they are left over from big jobs they do. It's a crap shoot because they don't always have what you want but most of the time they will.

Another good one is Hi Temp. Inc. and they are near Terminal Six, Port of Portland. They have anything you might want or they can get it for you and they have very good prices on everything."

If anyone has any further comment on my shopping list, or suggestions that might make life easier, I'd be pleased to receive them.

Mike at C.H. Murphy is who I ask when I need something. He is responsive to inquiries concerning overstock, damaged, and surplus refractories.

I buy all my castable from them.
