ORGANIZATION:
Reports directly to the Board of Directors.
As the most senior staff position within the organization, the Executive Director is responsible for the strategic leadership of the organization to ensure its future relevance as a statewide arts organization, credibility, and financial viability. The Executive Director is responsible for establishing organizational objectives and priorities and for reviewing and evaluating the progress and work toward attainment of objectives and performance goals established by the board of directors.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Executive Director actively develops alliances and partnerships by involving the community and by personally promoting participation, volunteerism, and philanthropy.
Internal Relationships:
Works directly with the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee to develop organizational policies in support of Florida Craftsmen's mission. As the leader of the senior management team, the Executive Director guides the development of strategic and operational plans.
External Relationships:
The Executive Director works directly with community leaders, major donors, philanthropists, and government organizations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Organizational Management:
Provides the organization with the vision and leadership to carry out its mission.
Maintains staff and volunteer focus on its mission and vision and implements established priorities through an inclusive strategic plan and management system.
Seeks out opportunities to improve operational efficiency and cohesion.
Develops policies and strategies for sound financial management including all revenues, expenses, endowment funds, and investments. Ensures rigorous standards and long term stability through the conservative fiscal management.
Encourages and facilitates the application of technology for greatest efficiencies.
Development:
Provides the leadership and long term vision necessary to enhance fundraising and development.
Develops new initiatives to create endowments or other long-term funding to support programming objectives.
Leads staff and volunteers in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for an annual campaign.
Solicits and stewards major individual and corporate donors ensuring accountability and recognition.
Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Undergraduate degree is required. Graduate degree is desirable
Experience:
Individual should possess a minimum of ten years of directly related experience including several years in a senior managerial capacity with a similar institution.
A fine art background is essential. A Craft Art background will provide useful credential both internally and externally. Experience in developing exhibitions and programs is a plus.
We seek an individual with well rounded business acumen and strategic analytic capability.
Must have direct management responsibility for large-scale initiatives involving significant budgets and impact, staff, and diverse stakeholder groups.
Significant experience is required in a variety of recruiting roles, such as; staff building, executive board member development and donor cultivation.
Extensive experience working with volunteers.
Skills:
Proven leadership and team building skills. Ability to build consensus, rally support around common goals and to motivate groups and individuals.
Proven negotiation and mediation skills. Ability to overcome obstacles to cooperation and to foster harmonious relationships.
Strong project management skills. Easily balances competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines.
Ability to think strategically and creatively.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential to the position. Well developed interpersonal skills are critical to success.
Enthusiasm for the development of culture and an appreciation of the creative process that links artists and collectors.
