Nice chawan, Lee. What is the recipe/firingschedule ??

Cheers, Hank

PS: Is the Zogan an inlay or just bare rope impression?

Hank,   the clay is mostly helmers, with a little EPK and Ohio fire clay.   The glaze is Mino Shino.    I just reduce starting at 012, light reduction until almost 10, then heavy and clear at the end for half an hour.

The impression is inlayed with Continental Clay's Superwhite, white stoneware.   a cone 6to9 body.

love the chowan and plates,  too much snow though.  It's still cold here, but our snow has gone

Wow, snow! And great ceramics - lovely contrast. Well done, Lee.
I love the chowan and the first plate.
We have flowers blooming, my red sage would look good beside the plate, as would my chicken sandwich were it to be upon the plate...
Thanks for the visiual delight:>)

(I liked the 'yellow earthy glaze' on the artist of the month site.)

Thanks folks!   Hank, here it is.   I didn't use low-melt:

Mino Shino  from Robinson's article on shinos in Studio Potter:

Neph Sye                  60
Spodumene               10
Calc. Alumina Oxide   30
Bentonite                     4

The alumina oxide is expensive.  The calcine it to 3000*F   I have heard you can sub some fine hydrate for half of the oxide, but haven't tried it yet.

To promote red, I will put a thin layer of the same glaze, but with 5% Spanish I Ox down first.  Sometimes with a brush.  On this one, I watered the iron shino and put it on like watercolors (last time, I got too much and everything was bright red.)
