A while back Bill Schran and Jackie Miller asked me to share the recipes
for Hannah's fake ash and Andie's fake ash. Sorry for the delay, but I am
happy to do so: I believe that these glazes are available on the internet,
so I believe I am not violating any confidences.

*Hannah's Golden Fake Ash* (cone 6 oxidation or reduction)
Strontium Carbonate 9.90
Whiting 28.43
RedArt 56.96
Ferro 3195 4.71

Add:
Bentonite 1.00
Red Iron Oxide 3.24
Yellow Iron Oxide 2.75

Note: Various versions of this can be found on the internet. This one, I
believe, was originally a cone 10 recipe that may have been modified by
Steven Hill for cone 6 electric. It was originally developed by Hannah
Brehmer of Ashland, Oregon.
*Hannah's Blue Ash* is essentially the same recipe, but with 1.27% cobalt
oxide instead of the iron oxides. (If using cobalt carbonate instead of the
oxide, you must make the conversion.)
Steven Hill also has a fake ash, made with copper carb, that gives a
greenish hue. You can find it also on the internet at
http://www.carolclarksonpottery.com/blog/2016/05/25/Copper-Ash-Glaze-Recipe-Steven-Hill.aspx

*Andie's Golden Fake Ash* (cone 6 oxidation or reduction)
Strontium Carb 12
Lithium Carb 2
Gerstley Borate 10
Bone Ash 5
Dolomite 24
RedArt 27
Kentucky Old Mine #4 20

Note: This is very well-behaved, for an ash-type glaze. I like to use it in
combination with Val Cushing's G4 ash glaze, with 3% RIO + 2% Yellow iron
oxide + 5% rutile. Put the Val Cushing near the top of the pot, because it
will run. You can see this combination on a covered jar shown on my Flickr
page at https://www.flickr.com/photos/psychoceramics/

The *Val Cushing G4 ash glaze* recipe is in the ClayArt archives. See:

Anyone else have a favorite ash (or fake ash) glaze you are willing to
share?
