I have a question for another potter - has anyone had pitting in a
Blue Bird pug mill barrel and how did you deal with it?

I know there are answers in the archives but I just don't have the
time to search. Please feel free to contact me directly but I'm sure
there are others who will want to hear the details.

There was some discussion about this some time back:

I have an older Bluebird 440 with pitted barrel. Bought it used from
potter who used porcelain and B-Mix type clays. Apparently this potter
didn't clean out the machine on a regular basis. I now use this pug
mill with pitted barrel to reclaim brown & red stoneware. It is
difficult to seal the barrel to keep clay moist in the barrel for
extended periods of time, so I just let the clay left in the barrel
dry a bit, undo 4 bolts and pull the barrel off to clean out dried
clay.
