Sad news. Barbara was generous and enthusiastic about sharing clay and cultural knowledge. I visited her prior to my first trip to Turkey for a ceramics conference. We spent a very pleasant afternoon looking at her collection of clay work and talking about clay, people, and of course Turkiye.

She will be missed.

Mel,
I read your brief note with great sadness. Barbara Brown, always so nice
and so generous, was one of a kind.
More than 20 years ago I had the good fortune to join one of Guangzhen
"Po" Zhou's guided ceramics tours to China. Flying from Salt Lake, I had
arranged to meet Po at the San Francisco airport. He was then living in San
Jose. Since I had a more than six-hour layover before our flights to
Guangzhou, Barbara volunteered to also meet me at the airport.
When we met in the SFO terminal, Barbara surprised me with two gifts.
One was a new copy of the book, *The Arcanum, *by Janet Gleeson*.* The
other was a well worn and very serviceable money belt. "I didn't think you
had one of these and you need it to keep your passport, credit card and
cash safe," she told me. "You keep it. I have a new one."
The sun had risen outside the airport in Seoul, South Korea. when I
finished reading *The Arcanum. *That wonderfully written true history of
how porcelain manufacture was rediscovered in Europe early in the 18th
century was a perfect overview and background to help me understand the far
earlier history and significance of Chinese ceramics I would learn about in
the following weeks.
Barbara's positive enthusiasm for ceramics wass infectious. She will be
missed.
Dave
