I bought a used Shimpo ringcone wheel around 1997 or so and it is still
working great.
But it seems this wheel is an anomaly in the Shimpo lineup of wheels.
Here is the anomaly...the name/electrical info plate says it is a
SHIMPO POTPET RINGCONE.
This POTPET RINGCONE wheel looks just like the other old ringcone wheels I
have seen except the foot peddle and speed change lever are on the left
side with the on off forward reverse knob on the right.
All photos and info I have been able to locate on old ringcone Shimpos
show the peddle/lever on the right, and the switch on the left.
I contacted Shimpo USA a few years after I bought the wheel to see if I
could find a manual and get more information about the wheel.
The person I was in contact with at Shimpo said there is no such wheel as a
POTPET but there is a POPET and I must have misread the plate.
No convincing them otherwise, so I sent a photo of the plate...POTPET.
They were amazed and confused, they had never heard of the POTPET wheel and
promised they would do some research and get back to me. They could find
no record of a POTPET in their USA records and said they would check with
Shimpo Japan, but I never heard from them again.
Has anyone ever seen or have any knowledge of a SHIMPO POTPET
RINGCONE wheel?
Just curious to know what I have and where it originated.
It would be interesting to know its history.
Thanks, Dick
