Hello,

You already enumerated problems the wire, spalling, color, and I would add
“pokiness”. Nichrome wire is very stiff and, if firmly anchored, an injury
generator.

Since you are going multi-media already, why not make sites in the work to
receive post glaze firing applications of filament material .

For example, string cutter string comes in many diameters and a range of
colors. It is plastic and could be heat shaped (never done it) then glued
into the pits in the surface. E3000?

I once made a sitting cat sculpture for an inn in southern Iowa. At the
time I had foregone whiskers (as whiskers are not what says “cat” to me)
but in its later life, the cat gained some nylon mono-filament attachments
in the face area.

Had I applied Nichrome whiskers the sculpture would have been a danger to
adult ankles and all parts of a toddler.

Apparently, cat sculptures have multiple lives, as the actual cats are
credited. This cat (cone 10 stoneware) got attached to a vase that leaned
over in the kiln. Separating them broke a chunk out of the cat’s back (life
2). Applying glaze and re-firing restored the cat, which was delivered to
Iowa where it took up residence at “The Inn of the Six Toed Cat.”

The sculpture contains six toads on its body and a model of the building
stuck to its haunch, so I thought it was home. But no! The owner sold out
taking some antique furniture and the cat!

The third owner, revitalizing the Inn, found a cat sculpture at a yard sale
and thought it might look good at the Inn (not noticing the inscription
inside) even with the applied whiskers (lives 3 & 4).

I was delighted when I was able to point out to the owner the inscription
showing the cat was meant for the Inn. (There an undetermined number of cat
lives involved in getting the cat to the yard sale!)

Joe
