with the up cost of spodumene and hard to get, what have people done as a sub??
I know it is lithium based, but how and when.

Colleen uses Lehman's white all the time and has run out. She tried some other white and
is very unhappy. We use a combo of tin and zircopax and it is wonderful.

I know how funny it is that I have run clayart for 45 years and now I ask "anybody"
got a good white glaze for cone 10. my cone 7 white is wonderful.

Mel I have been using this recipe for years.
It's a great liner glaze. Rich opaque white. I rinse all of my pots with a flush of water before applying it.
It prevents any bubbles and keeps it smooth. It works in redux or ox. I have cooked it to >11 and it held up well.
Hope this works for you.

Dan

Haven’t tried G200EU in place of Custer.
But will have to go there soon.

Hi Mel,
I’m not sure what kind of white you are looking for, but I mixed up Rhodes 32 (silky to dry matt) and Byron Temple 6C White, a semi matte, smooth matte. I found both to be beautiful, especially Rhodes 32 on iron bearing stoneware at cone 10.

Rhodes 32 calls for Custer feldspar, and since I still have some, I used that. Temple 6C white also calls for Custer Feldspar. I have not mixed either with Custer replacements, such as G200 EU or Mahavir, but assume the result would be a close match.

Mahavir is the cheapest replacement for Custer and I have heard good things about it.

Hi Don - looks like a very stable glaze - here it is using G200EU spar.

TB White - cone 10 liner glaze, I could do this with Neph Sy if anyone
wants to try it.

EPK ........ 10.0
whiting .... 15.0
Silica ..... 35.0
G200EU ..... 35.0
Superpax ... 10.0
Bentonite .. 2.0
Total ..... 107.0

Best not to mix up too much until it tests out well.

I have heard that Mahaviar spar is no longer going to be imported by
Laguna - perhaps someone can confirm that info. There are problems
with consistency I expect.
