I added a picture of one of the dark brown mugs. Clayart page, bottom pix.
I must note that a quality photograph will change the color of the glaze. The
Shino is much darker brown in natural light.
The Pete's red teapot is almost dead on for color.
The teabowl, chawan also shows the oil spotting of the
Temoku like glaze.
If one is looking for richness of glaze, esp iron, it takes heat to make
it work. I love cone 11-12. Then add a bit of down fire and some wonderful
things happen. Add to that idea with layers of glazes and magic happens.
If you are painting 500 rose buds on your pot, don't look at anything I do.
Fussy decoration needs very stable, no run, colored glazes...So. fire electric
to cone 6 with commercial glazes and you will be happy. We cannot change our
personality. So, If you are a perfectionist, fuss budget, learn to control everything,
'even your dog."
I have fired hot and with layers for near 70 years now. I want the kiln and materials
to surprise me. I can buy pure white dishes at Walmart. I do not want to make them
in my own kiln. I have held Ming dynasty aqua bottles in China. They do make a potter
cry with their beauty. But, that is a different story. I made pure white pots in Kyoto
by the hundreds, but the forms were more than elegant. And, they did not have my stamp
on the bottom.
