When making bird figures with tall skinny legs, I've used the wire, then post firing coated it with a clay epoxy (e.g., Fixit), then used acrylic inks for color. Good luck. Let us know if you find success!

Why not consider post-fire applications? Acrylic paint is quite durable (probably need to apply a primer first). If the sculpture is going outside, exterior house or boat paint.

Hi Antoinette,

Sounds like you want to fire clay on metal. I can't imagine the
expansions would be close enough. Perhaps getting the metal powder
coated would work.

I remember a Canadian Leopold Foulem ( disceased )he did a series using wire coated in porcelain clay. I tried to find some photos of the series, without success. He had teapot forms. Along with other forms. Try a search, you might be able to find this series.
