Announcements

Classroom API

• No new API announcements this month.

Reminders from last month:

• It is now possible to configure grading periods in a course using the Classroom API! The grading periods endpoints are available in public preview. To use endpoints in public preview, join the Developer Preview Program.

Classroom add-ons

• Chrome has announced that third-party (3P) cookies will no longer be deprecated. As a result, we do not expect add-ons to be impacted in early 2025. However, Chrome intends to "introduce a new experience in Chrome that lets people make an informed choice that applies across their web browsing, and they’d be able to adjust that choice at any time", so there could still be a future where 3P cookie access is more limited than it is today. We will share updated guidance as we learn more from Chrome, and encourage developers to remain forward-thinking about increased cookieless traffic in the future. Reminders from last month:

• The Course.courseMaterialSets field now exclusively returns an empty list. This field has been deprecated and read-only for several years, so we expect little impact on any production applications.

• Classroom add-ons are now generally available to developers! See the Workspace developer blog post for more information and our developer guides to get started building an add-on.

• The Python and Java add-ons reference implementations have been published to the Google Workspace samples on GitHub.

Classroom API guides

Please be advised of the following documentation changes this month:

• Minor corrections to the HTTP request example for consuming preview APIs.

• Updated the add-ons 3P cookie guidance to reflect Chrome's new position of continued support for 3P cookies.

  • Two new guides - Access the grading periods endpoints in public preview and Manage grading periods.

  • New grading periods reference documentation.

• Classroom add-ons guides:

  • Significant revisions to existing guides for general availability.

  • Walkthrough pages updated with reminders about the upcoming deprecation of third-party cookies in Chrome.
