I can't seem to reply to the newbie thread so I have been advised to
start a new one...Behold the new newbie thread.

My name is Andrew Maslen (Mazz) I live in Bath and am 31 years old. I
like a wide range of Heavy Metal and Rock bands. I have a real soft
spot for 70's "Proto-Metal". I'm also going through an intense AC/DC
love session at the moment.

I sing in a band called Battlewitch and I was the stupid sap that sent
in those two awesome pictures into last month's classic rock. We were
a little drunk at the time and flicking through some old copies of CR
and were complaining of the lack of "art" contained within ;).

Well I was not expecting that :D.

Our drummer does all the Myspace stuff so I expect you have have some
kind of communication with him.

I had a shave this morning and look even younger...and like a girl :D.

We did enjoy the gig and got a good reception considering only about 5
people in London would have heard about us.

Thanks for the support.

Always room for a bit of JP.

We are influenced by HEAVY METAL in general. Also by Wizards, Witches,
Dragons, Beer, Olde world pubs and Stone circles. :D

another new member tried to reply to the old newbie thread, but it
didnt wotk (must find out how to un-sticky it), so here's their
intro...

Hi

I'm Steen from Denmark.
A real old fart, but I actually don't give a shit.
I have passed 40 a few years ago - but I still play bass in a
rockband, listen to a lot of hard rock - so I now have hair growing
out of my ears and nose - and the hair on my head is slowly
dissappearing.

welcome steen!

Hiya,

To Steen:

My favourite albums:

DP: "Made In Japan", "In Rock", [wow !!!] "Fireball" DP [April].
When I heard the re-vamped "Bludsucker" off "Abandon" I wondered why they
bothered because I love the "In Rock" version so much. & I think that
version of "Child In Time" *just* beats "Made In Japan".

JP: "Rocka Rolla", "British Steel" [reason for my razor blade necklace] "Sad
Wings Of Destiny"

Robert Plant: "Mighty ReArranger"

& loads more besides. I'd be here all day.

I wish I lived over there, I think I'd fit right in. All I get over where I
live is, "Who's this Ian Gillian?" [sic], or, "ugh! he sounds like a dying
cat! How can/do you listen to this?"

That or, "I remember them from when I was young .....".

Sigh!
Claire

Hi Rob, Greg and Claire

Thanks for the welcome.

My faves include Boston, Whitesnake, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Dio, UFO,
Nazareth, April Wine, Ted
Nugent, Dokken etc.

Is it just me, or is classic rock having a come back these years?

Maybe it's just my age, that gets me looking back to "the good old
days" ;-)

I play bass in a rock band, and if I should name a few fave bands, I
would have to start with AC/DC - they are on the top of my list....and
have been there for more than 20 years.
My list is longer than Ted Nugents hair, but a few names are Rainbow,
Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Dio, BTO, Nazareth, Boston, Cheap Trick,
Enuff Z'Nuff, Rush, Ted Nugent, Thunder, Dokken, Thin Lizzy.....and
the list goes on forever.

Good Evening all :)

I'm Cliff, a well-travelled, sprightly little number of maturing
years, who loves Rock n Roll in equally huge measures...

Musically I'm into all sorts of trash from Sinatra to Slayer, but I
have to save a special mention for the following...not because they're
my absolute faves, but because they are vastly underated...Mother Love
Bone, Vain, Hanoi Rocks, Dogs D'amore, Love/Hate, Tigertailz (RIP
Pepsi), LA Guns...so many others, and mostly defunct :(

I'd also like to mention a particularly fantastic new band from around
this area (Deepest Buckinghamshire) called LIONSEX. They're brand
new, and they really do deliver!!! I do help the guys out, so call me
biased, but I really think you should make up your own minds - You can
hear their stuff at www.myspace.com/lionsexrock...I'm pretty sure you
won't be dissapointed :)

Hope you'll forgive the plug - I only dare to do it because they're so
bloody good!!!

Much luv to all

Cliff

Some great bands on that list including the Dogs D'Amour who had an indirect hadn in me and my missus getting together all those years ago.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys :)

That's great Rob! Tyla and co were always a bunch of romantics - He's
just released a solo album as I understand it - I'm sure there was a
review in CR a couple of months ago...unless my memory is failing
me...which may be likely!!!

Does anyone here listen to Planet Rock on Digital Radio - I heard
something on the news about it being dropped or sold? That would be a
shame - It's a good station...even if it does play far too much YES
and Genesis!!! (Sorry to all Wakeman and Collins fans).

Hope everyone is in fine fettle :)

Welcome to the forum :)

Goth, Glam, Punk, EMO, Metal, Thrash and Trash - It's all Rock n Roll
to me ;)

Speaking of new tricks...you might want to check out the mighty
LIONSEX - They're a great new band from round this way (Milton
Keynes). They have a bit of everything, and that includes a pinch or
two of Gothness!!!

Nice to meet you,

I see your point Claire!!! They have a myspace site - www.myspace.com/lionsexrock.
As I said in an earlier post, I try to put the guys name about so am
very much biased ;) Give them a listen and please let me know what
you think - I'll only tell them the good parts!!!

As for a favourite band, song and album...

It would have to be - AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie - Any Bon Album (As in
Scott rather than Jovi - no offence Jon Bon)

OK. Woody asked me to post on here, so here's what I'm listening to
right now. I tend to make playlists on iTunes these days, in the same
way that I used to compile C90s of what I was listening to. The
following is a playlist of tracks I'm listening to at the moment:

Oh Josephine - The Black Crowes
Standout track from the new album for me.

Suddenly Attacked - Big Linda
Just brilliantr new rock. Was on one of our CDs recently - the opener
of their album.

Loaded (Terry Farley Remix) - Primal Scream
I wanted this for ages - mate of mine had it on 12" - found it on
iTunes. I like Primal Scream - this is a halfway house between the
original song and the dance remix Weatherall did that was a hit (ie
this one has some singing and stuff on it).

Music for a Found Harmonium - Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Er... Don't ask me why. I like it though. You can't rock hard all the
time.

Bad Blood - Supergrass
Max Bell turned me on to Supergrass again. This song is good. Not sure
I could manage a whole album though, but they are surprisingly
rocking.

Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town - Cake
A mate of mine used to have this - it's great. Brilliant song, rocked
up. Reminds me of being in New Orleans and a whole bunch of 50-
something women singing along with the original but shouting "You
bitch! You slut! You whore!" at the chorus.

Slither- Velvet Revolver
Writing a feature on them. I s'pose this is pretty much the only
essential track by them. Tis a doozy though.

Stormy High - Black Mountain
Trendy new stoner rock band. Again, don't think I could listen to a
whole album, but this track is ace.

Satan's Finest- Graveyard
Now these I could listen to a whole album of and do. Made no impact
first time I heard it, now I can't stop listening to it. Sabbath for
the 00s.

Baby Baby Baby - End Ever After
Hair metal for the 00s. Is gonna be on our next CD. An absolute party
classic.

Something Going On - Whitestarr
Their album keeps cropping up on both mine and Sian's iPods and never
fails to impress. Just really cool feelgood hard rock.

Don't Drink The Water - Stone Gods
The 'Darkness band'. Great song. Another good album - which I don't
think I'm actually supposed to have.

And album-wise, this is my current long-player:

The Wolf - Shooter Jennings
It sounds like a name drop (but I hope you can forgive it cos it's
genuine and certainly not the most impressive namedrop) but Dave
Kushner of Velvet Revolver turned me on to him. He's mates with
Shooter and raved about this album to me. So I bought it (£4 or
something via Amazon marketplace - ridiculous). I like it, but not as
much as Dave - Shooter's Waylon Jenning's son and it's a true mix of
country and Southern Rock and includes a pretty good, cringe-avoiding
cover of Dire Straits' Walk Of Life (minus the 'Woo-hoo!'s).

He'd be a great frontman for VR. Will never happen of course. Girls
wouldn't like it. ;-)
