The Bad Shepherds album.

The band, led by Ade Edmondson, were superb. All brilliant musicians and Ade can sing well whilst playing 'thrash mandolin'. The gig was really good with some great re-inventions of classics like Down The Tube Station At Midnight, London Calling, I Fought The Law, Up The Junction, Teenage Kicks etc.. I can highly recommend them if you get the chance to see them live.

Check them out on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNU1Pxm78ww & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x5FsRLbh84.

Also, just yesterday I completed a long standing mission to obtain lots of the obscure stuff I has on tape as a kid on CD. Thanks to ebay this has been a huge success with the final two purchases being Tora Tora's self-title debut album and Mindfunk's self-title debut.

Sounds good Woody. I saw the Anvil film at the cinema but bought it on
DVD (only a fiver!) and it was just as entertaining second time round.
In fact it was probably even more entertaining, as it was with a few
mates and we were cracking up at just how similar to Spinal Tap the
whole thing is.

NLT - The Dead End by Abandon.
Depressing and crushing extreme doom metal...love it!

Also, been listening to 'Cheat The Gallows' recently, the latest album
by progsters Bigelf. I would highly recommend it. You can read my
review of it here http://www.rockfreaks.net/index.php?page=albumreviews&id=2310

Black Gives Way To Blue - Alice In Chains.

Not sure about this album yet, the single is brilliant, but for me, their
finest hour was Dirt and that will take some beating.

It's in the car Kat, so I'll be playing it ad nauseum, but I think when I
drive I concentrate more on driving than the music so I'll copy it to my
iRiver MP3 player too, turn the volume up to full and damage my ears.

I envy you seeing them. I thought their early albums were terrific, but
Alice In Chains was very dark in comparison, but I saw a clip of them on
some TV show in the US playing live and I thought they were excellent.

Still, in the last week I've seen Gary Moore, Magnum and tonight, the
utterly magnificent Y&T, so I can't complain too much.

Interesting comment Woody... I'd have to say that it's not the best
for me anyway... I can't look beyond "Storyteller's Night" or "Wings
Of Heaven" as the best Magnum album. For me, "Brand New Morning" has
been the one since the reformation that really caught my ear although
Princess Alice ran it close. Strangely though I'd rate Bob Catley's
first solo album "The Tower" as better than anything Magnum have done
since "Wings Of Heaven".

Don't know about best ever, Woody, because I don't have any of their
classic albums, but I certainly enjoy it and the songs are good live
as well. One of the better albums of this year IMHO. I've been
listening to another of the candidates for that title today in the car
with Saxon's Into the Labyrinth blasting out all the way back from
Huntingdon.

To be honest Grizz I am not a huge Magnum fan, I have 4 or 5 albums,
Wings of Heaven is very good as is Story Tellers and the new one. I
also have Black Rain but that might be a Tony Clarkin solo album but
its very good.

However as we all know "Into The Labrinth is a superb album :)

I fancy a bit of Ride The Lightning later. (Now Ipswich have won and
all :))

That might be "Hard Rain" Woody which was Bob Catley and Tony
Clarkin's post Magnum split group? 2 albums... I rather quickly sold
on the first and never bothered with the second. Not surprised they
reformed actually! Although if I recall correctly, Catley actually
quit Hard Rain for a solo career after the second album.

"Into The Labyrinth" for me was only really spoilt by the horrible
"Hellcat", but I do like those typically Saxon storytelling epics.
Battalions Of Steel, Valley Of The Kings and Come Rock Of Ages all do
it for me. Good album anyway.

Currently however I am spinning Gun's "Taking On The World" in
anticipation of tonight's Swansea gig.

Quite right Bill - a brilliant album. I am currently and regularly
being lashed on the Saxon forum for my view that Hellcat is a crap
track. Nice to se I am not alone on this one :)

You are right about the Hard Rain album, not quite sure why you sold
it though I think its pretty good. Magnum were a band that I was not
particularly keen on but I saw them several times as they always
seemed to be supporting the main band that I was off to see.
(Mildenhall Stadium Rock Festival anyone ?)
Magnum; I can take em or leave em, but there is no denying a good
album when you hear it.

I quite liked ' Brand new day' but must admit that 'Storyteller' is
quite rightly viewed as possibly their best. I am a big fan of the
live album ' Marauder' ( so much better if you also have the 7" double
pack that was released at the time - should have been included on the
album )
i was not especially into Wings of Heaven or Vigilante - both rather
tepid overblown affairs due to a bigger budget from Polydor who
probably did not understand that Magnum's charm laid in their quirky
'Englishness'
IMO the Polydor albums were too polished - i think the label was
looking for the next Bon Jovi ?
anyone have 'Rock Art' ? that's the one album I haven't heard.

Pink Floyd - Animals

Floyd were never particular favourites of mine but I've been listening
to them, a lot recently. Still can't be bothered with The Wall though
- tosh of the first order.

Also been listening to the Them Crooked Vultures album a lot and it's
a cracker. Of what you might call its constituent parts its most
reminiscent of Queens Of The Stone Age, but there are noticeable
tinges of Zeppelin too. Not so much Foo Fighters in there, but that's
about the perfect mix from my point of view. Lots of great riffs and
grooves on a very varied album, well worth the hype. If this came
about because Plant refused a Zepp re-union then good on him, I say.

totally agree about 'The Wall' - the one time I got to see Pink Floyd
- at Earls Court for The Wall. never liked it at all. even 'The Final
Cut' was marginally better.
but Animals is great, along with 'Dark side' , 'Wish you were here'
'Meddle' and 'Obscured by Clouds'

still waiting to hear Them Crooked Vultures.

NLT : Show and Tell - Silvertide. excellent album - why oh why have
they not released a 2nd album ?

I love Pink Floyd, and for me The Wall has aged perfectly over the
last 30 years. It's pretty much the soundtrack of the 1980s. and was
one of the first rock albums I can ever remember hearing around the
age of 5, I grew up with it in. It can be hard to get into if your
more for the punk or kick ass rock, but Roger Waters had just as much
venom as Johnny Rotten had. It's both grand, over the top and as self
indulgent as prog rock should be, whilst at the same time having
something relevant to say. And it goes without saying Comfortably Numb
is simply pure genius, for me the greatest solo, by my guitar hero
Dave Gilmour.

The live shows from 1980/81 are superb and I wish they'd release them
on DVD. Gerald Scarff's animations still knock the socks of most
modern day computer animation. The movie with Bob Geldof is I admit a
bit odd, and only really for Floyd fans, but one of these film that is
great with a wee herbal remedy!

So, OK I'm a Pink Floyd nut, sorry but just had to step in an defend them!

Cheers,

Andrew

Not sure what triggered the mood but for the past couple of weeks I've
been listening to "big sound" albums. Yes 90215, ELP In The Beginning,
Genesis And Then There Were Three, Aldo Nova (He fits into my category
due to the fact that he plays all of the instruments on his solo
album) The especially sweet ear candy amongst these has been ASIA
Alpha - especially The Smile Has Left Your Eyes.... DAMN! What an
awesome job Howe does on that track!! I realize I was only supposed to
post one single album but what can I say. I was going for more of a
type of music vs. a particular artist. And if I continue this
appreciation of the "big sound" bands I'm sure more albums will find
their respective ways onto my list. Hmm... interesting there's not a
single American band in the current rotation....

{{...now... let's see.... How do those damn Brits end a post.....?
Hmm.... is it "Cheers..." or is it "Ta!" .....No, I remember now....
it's....}}

Have a good day ya bloody bastards!!
{Yup, that's the one!}

Steve, feel free to post as many as albums as you like mate. As for
me, I've had the following albums spinning over the last few days:

XV - King's X
Razorblade Suitcase - Bush
Hey Stoopid - Alice Cooper
Nevermind - Nirvana

I have to agree wtih Andrew about The Wall as well - one of my 3
favourite Floyd albums, the other two being Dark Side and Division
Bell. Comfortably Numb contains the finest guitar solo ever recorded
for my money. Even more impressive when you see it live on the Pulse
DVD.

i believe that Shinedown were formed by the original guitarist from

and i'm still waiting for Monster Magnet to finally get their arses

Philly band and Shinedown were formed by Brett Smith and are from Florida. I

Thanks Brother, I'll do that! Regarding Hey Stoopid...
Not sure how well received the album was there in GB but Holy Chit!!
It was huge here. It got a tremendous amount of play on the radio
here. Alice is a neighbor of mine - well, when I say neighbor, he
actually lives about 16K from me but close-by nonetheless.
Quick story about how he and I met...
Alice grew up and still lives here in Phoenix. He always maintained a
residence here even when he was spending most of his career over in
L.A. That fact has made him somewhat of a "local boy makes good". He
owns a very popular sports bar and grill in Tempe just blocks from
Ariz. State UIniv. Throughout his career he has always been very
approachable and humble - in a nutshell, he's just a well grounded,
very nice guy. Aside from everything that has taken place in his
professional life, he has a second consuming passion that would have
made him just as famous and just as rich had he pursued that path
instead of the one he did. I'm speaking of course about his abilities
on the golf course. He is a scratch golfer and has gotten his pro card
a few times over the years. And just like the fact he has worked with,
helped or produced just about every band since the dawn of rock-and-
roll, he has shared the golf course with everybody who's anybody in
the golf community. Even the pros he's played a friendly game or two
with say he could easily be pro.
As you probably know, Arizona lends itself to being sunny a good
portion of the time - 318 days per year in fact! Here in Phoenix we
only get 7 inches of rainfall per year. And although it's unbearably
hot in the summer, the other 9 months of the year allow for playing
golf in short-sleeved shirts.
I have spent a fair amount of time on the golf course myself - not
that it did any good because I pretty much suck at the game! hehe
Years ago I was the assistanrt executive chef at a local hotel and
golf resort where Alice often likes to play. This particular resort
boasts the oldest golf course in Arizona and therefore has the oldest
tree growth and the most shade. One afternoon after work, I decided to
use one of my management perks and play a quick 9 holes before heading
home. So I put my name on the list at the pro shop and waited to be
paired up with someone. I went into the bar to have a pint or 4 while
waiting. Sitting at the bar shooting the bull with the bartender was
Alice himself. I knew he played there quite a bit but had never seen
him there. So I belly up to the bar a couple of seats down from Alice
and order my drink. The bartender introduced us to each other and we
quickly hit off talking about the muscle cars of the '70s. About 15
mins later I hear from the P.A., "McLean party of 1 and Cooper party
of 1 to the 1st tee-box." Both Alice and I said at the same time,
"Finally!" We immediately realized we had gotten paired up and off we
went to the first tee - he with his diet coke in tow and I with my
Guinness. We had a great time that day. Me because I got to play golf
for a couple of hours with a rock legend and he because he spanked the
Hell out of me! hehe
When the game ended we both headed to the parking lot where our cars
were parked nose-to-nose in separate spots. we talked for a few more
minutes and he looked at his watch and abruptly said, "Steve I had a
great time and hopefully we'll get to do it again sometime but if I
don't get my ass home I'm going to be late for dinner and my wife
isn't a nice person if I'm late for dinner!" We shook hands, he got
into his blood-red brand new corvette with a license plate which read
BLOOD and sped off down the road. I've played with him about a dozen
times since then and each time it's a treat to have my ass handed to
me by him on the course.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!

great story Steve. I have always been a huge Alice fan. I swapped the
Beatles white album with a school mate for Billion Dollar Babies. And
the first prerecorded cassette I bought was Muscle of Love. I always
felt he was very underated as a songwriter, but it wasn't until I saw
him on stage at the Reading Rock festival ( around '87 ? ) that I
truly appreciated his charisma as a performer. now that I moved to
Philadelphia the tradition is being carried on by my youngest daughter
- she got tickets for the latest gig in London. I'm so proud ! lol

iirc correctly Steve, "Hey Stoopid" didn't do too well over here in
the UK. Certainly didn't hit the heights it's inferior immediate
predecessor "Trash" did. That one really seemed to catch the times
and scored a big hit with "Poison" and 2 or 3 lesser hit singles as
well as put Alice back into the Arena's.

As far as now listening to goes.... I've got Tangerine Dream's "Zeit"
on at the moment. Fancied something a bit different!

Been listening to Gun's new "Popkiller" CD and the recent Gwyn Ashton

"Songs Of Distant Earth" which fits well with the Arthur C Clark story
that its based on.

Great story about Alice Cooper, Steve, I'm extremely jealous! I don't
play golf but I'd have pretended and just spent the day hacking around
in the bunkers if it meant a game with Alice Cooper he he
he....anyway, I had a bit of a metal day yesterday, listening to the
following in the car to and from work:

Candlemass - King of the Grey Islands
Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction
Metallica - Death Magnetic

Personally, I prefer Megadeth over Metallica - their material has been
far more consistent over the years and Countdown to Extinction is one
of their finest IMHO.

Ahh the ol' Metallica vs Megadeth debate!
Personally I'd go with Megadeth, my favourite being Rust In Peace.

As for what I've been listening to; a lot of Ensiferum - top quality
'Viking folk metal'

IMHO if you look at Megadeth's back catalogue there's hardly a dud in
there album wise. They've produced some real classics in the 3 albums
mentioned above. Metallica's first few albums were all solid
offerings but then came a decade of...well, utter tosh if you want my
honest opinion. Death Magnetic is a welcome return to form but it
doesn't change the fact that they've always been a band that blows hot
and cold. Megadeth beat them in terms of both quality and quantity.
Anyway, that brings me onto today's playlist:

Ozzy Osbourne - Black Rain
Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures

First time I've heard the latter album and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Very Zeppelin-esque but, at the same time, a truly original work.

I like this although I have only played once all the way through so
might be too early to form an opinion. Only criticism is that some
songs seem to outstay their welcome a little

Pearl Jam - Backspacer - The more I listen to this one the more I like
it. There are some outstanding tracks on here.

Hopefully I might get down to Hard Rock Calling to see them live this
summer (they've been on my "to see" list for about 18 years!). Just
need to persuade a companion and persuade my hubby that its a good
idea for me to leave him at home with kids (cant put the 2 together,
he cant stand PJ)

I was tempted to go and see PJ at Hard Rock Calling as well but its
Green Day @ Wembley Stadium on the Saturday night and I don't think I
could swing the Friday night with Mrs G as well. Especially as she's

Agree highly with your verdict on Michael Schenker. I saw him at
Pontypridd recently and he looks to be really on form and happy again.

For the record, my Boxing Day playlist will be consisting of some of
these recently unwrapped discs...

Rory Gallagher - Original Album Masters boxset (5 discs - Duece,
Calling Card, Top Priority, Jinx, Fresh Evidence)
Warhorse - both album (s/t & Red Sea)
Winger - Karma
The Beatles - Past Masters

and the new 2 disc edition of Slade's Jimmy Lea called "Therapy".

Happy Boxing Day!

Right now I'm listening to Sin City given away free with Classic Rock
issue 81. This was the first CD they gave away before starting to do
it regularly. I kind of liked that CR was a magazine without CDs back
then because so many magazines just offload crap but CR generally do a
good job. I still have all of them except one which I bought but at
home I discovered the CD was missing from the sleeve! That pissed me
off a little.

Anyway, this one contains

Bruce Dickinson

Zodiac Mindwarp

Days of Worth

Pig Iron

Juliette and the Licks

Enuf Z'Nuff

GZR

Winterville

Starbreaker

Crucified Barbara

Styx

Spitalfield

Gotthard

Glenn Hughes

Wednesday 13

Wolfmother

Hazy Malaze

Biomechanical

The Duke

Wetton/Downes

I don't think I can say there's a duff track on there so it's
difficult to choose a favourite but I'll go with GZR because Geezer
Butler kicks mighty ass (incidentally, what's happened to this band?
Was it just a one off album?) and Wednesday 13's I Walked With a
Zombie because it's so much fun and it reminds me of Shaun of the
Dead, by far the best comedy this past decade!

Hey Patch,

That CD is my all time favourite CR freeby. Some absolutely corking
tunes on there. Regarding GZR, 2005's Ohmwork was the last album they
did, although there were two earlier offerings, 1995's Plastic Planet
and 1997's Black Science (released under the name "Geezer" rather than
"GZR"). All 3 albums are regarded as solo albums by Geezer Butler and
have had Pedro Howse on guitar. Deen Castronovo appeared on drums for
the first two with Chad Smith on the drum stool for Ohmwork (not the
Chad Smith from RHCP incidentally). Burton C Bell appeared on vocals
for Plastic Planet and Clark Brown has done the 2 later albums. Hope
all that helps :o)

Anyway, this week I've been listening to:

Seventeen Days - 3 Doors Down
The Heroin Diaries - Sixx:AM
Fifteen - Buckcherry
Puzzle - Biffy Clyro

All courtesy of my Secret Santa.

The only other CR CD that really lived up to the high quality of that one was last year's NWOTM CD (issue 134).

The others generally contain a few good tracks (usually the ones that make me stop reading and listen more attentively) and a few tracks that just don't do it for me at all. That said, I'm glad we get the cover CDs because they've led me to some great bands..

Angels solo disc that I hadn't heard in years - pleasant surprise how
good it is)
Yes - Yes (I'd never heard their first album before and found the CD
for a fiver... really enjoyed the cover of Every Little Thing)
Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm (been lying by the player for ages
awaiting a listen... enjoyable but not as good as the first one)

Hi Rob,

Funny enough, this Wolf album was recommended to me by someone on the
Saxon forum, so I lashed out; Whilst its not a bad album, for me, it
is a bit "perfect" in a negative way if you see what I mean. I felt it
is a bit "Rock by numbers", not bad, just no spark of magic. Nothing
grabbed me and said, hey this is great, appart that is, from you and
others on Saxon747.com, so its just me then !

Not a bad album, that I will listen to again but I'm not recommending
it to anyone.

White Wizzard - Over The Top

Bought for me as a birthday present. A really good NWOTM album that lives up to the hype following the High Speed GTO track and EP. Comes with a good cover of two NWOBMH songs, Cloven Hoof's "Gates Of Gehenna" and Priest's "Heading Out To The Highway".

I also received Joanne Shaw Taylor's "White Sugar", Drive By Truckers' "Southern Rock Opera" (first try at some of their stuff after hearing a few positive reviews) and a Rare Earth compilation that I asked for on the strength of the article in last month's CR about them.

Thankfully a kind aunt also gave me some money so cued up on Amazon are Airbourne's new album, Oli Brown's album and the new one from Audrey Horne (never got round to checking them out at the time of Le Fol but the new one gets a good write up in CR so I figure I'll give it a go).

On the turntable recently:

Saxon: Innocence Is No Excuse
Saxon: Rock The Nations
Saxon: Destiny

The last three in the series of EMI re-releases. I was going to avoid
these but I wanted the full set to complete the Saxon logo across the
spines. I've never got over not getting all the Priest re-releases, so
that my set spells 'Judas Pit' across the spines. Anyhow I've always
been a bit unkind to Innocence Is No Excuse and while it's still not
the best it is better than I remember. Rock The Nations is a pretty
good album all in all, and while Destiny is not too hot, it probably
doesn't deserve all of the criticism it gets - and the laugh you get
from the booklet photos is worth the price of admission.

Man - Back Into The Future
Camel - Moonmadness

At this very minute listening to Danny Baker's Radio 5 show -

raise a glass to a living legend - still the best version of Stairway

Funny how tastes are different isn't it?  The only Saxon reissue in this set that I have bought is "Destiny".  I've always thought it a fine melodic rock album.  I'm not much of a fan of the Saxon "Live To Rock"/"Party Till You Puke"/"Hello Cleveland We'll Rock You Like A Rockband" cliched American type song... for me "Destiny" possessed some excellent lyrics with the storytelling abilities Biff has always had showing themselves in songs like "SOS" about Titanic, "Red Alert" (Chenobyl) and "Calm Before The Storm".  Plus, it's an excellent cover of "Ride Like The Wind" to start the album.

Each to their own eh!?!?!

Nice to see Man still on the playlist Mutt....  "Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day" has been on my player a lot recently since the death of Micky Jones.

I tell you what I've just been listening to. Did anyone here tune to
Planet Rock for the Listomania this afternoon? The tacks were chosen
by yours truly, got my wee bit of fame there! My theme was Chess,
being a bit of a player myself I thought it was appropriate. You'll
find many rock musicians are keen chess players as well. The tracks I
picked that got played were...

1. Kill The King - Rainbow
2. Only Time Will Tell - Asia
3. Keep Yourself Alive - Queen
4. The Logical Son - Supertramp
5. Knights of Cedonia - Muse
6. In The Court of the Crimson King
7. Bishops Dance - Bruce Springsteen (a very rare gem only found on
the box set tracks)
8. War Pigs - Black Sabbath
9. Spanish Castle Magic - Jimi Hendrix
10. Games Without Frontiers.

I thought it was a good mix of old and new tracks and a couple rare choices.

Cheers,

Andrew

Well I havemore than a passing interest in Saxon; For me, Innocense Is
No Excuse is one of the most listenable Saxon albums released, I
really like it and Broken Heroes is just brilliant, especially live on
St Georges day (not this year alas*).

For me Rock the Nation is dire, I find it really embarrasing that such
a brilliant Metal band can steep so low, but, like Bill says, "each to
their own".

Destiny, I quite like, better than a lot of critisism it generates on
the Saxon Web forum.

Saxons last album takes some beating: Into The Labyrinth, sheer class.

Well talk about coincidences !

There I was in Marackville on Wednesday night to see Joe Bonamassa
play this box I've never been to before. I checked out the merch table
beforehand and saw that the record store that was promoting Joe was
promoting Joanne Shaw Taylor too and had some CDs for sale too. Cool I
thought - but no mention of tour dates. Until the support band came
one with a blonde lead guitarist ! Hold on I thought ... well bugger
me ! Was I chuffed or what ?!?

Whereas Joe has a Hamond player and is more funky Joanne just lets rip
with her power trio.
Shame she only played 4 or 5 songs but Joe's set made up for that -
thought it would never end (in a good way)
It was his first gig in Australia ever before heading up north to
Byron Bay to play the BluesFest along with Jeff Beck, The Gypsy Kings
and Crowded House (!) Now the girlfriend goes all moist when she
hears finger picking Spanish guitar but I loved the excerpt from Dazed
and Confused as well as Young Man Blues (the old Who cover)

She's playing a UK tour soon - I highly recommend you check it out !

Thanks ever so much Fred.

We actually have live music in the evening which will be provided by a friend who is pretty much a rock guitarist.  We've asked him to play to the crowd but also to play as much rock as he can possibly get away with!  I don't think I'll be off the dancefloor much.

Don't think I'll be on much till I get back from honeymoon, so happy rocking everyone.

At last ! My Car Radio player is now fixed and I am back up with CD's
in the car.

Planet Rock is a good radio station but it sure was good to hear the
Heavy Metal Thunder CD album again :)

Nice one Mutley.

I've been busy updating my CD collection with some, ever cheaper, E
Bay bargains.

One from my old collection of CD's that has found its way to my CD
player is Sammy Hagar Live - Loud and Clear, what a blinding good
album that is. Very underated in my view, I cant find anything
negative to say about it.
Maybe Space Station No;5 could have been a bit more lively but I am
really struggling to find a critisism, why this album isn't mentioned
more in despatches is beyond me. Brilliant.

With "Be Good To Yourself..." and "Look At Yourself" you've picked a pair of superb albums there Mutley.  Probably my favourites from each band.

That Sammy Hagar Live album Woody mentioned is a real good one too.  I have that on suitably red vinyl :-)

I've actually found myself listening to a lot of Bryan Adams recently.  Picked up "11" and "Room Service" for next to nothing second hand and it's lead me back to "Reckless" and "Cuts Like A Knife" which are fine albums.

Seems to me to have been a very slow year for new releases. Unless things pick up, a best of 2010 disc for Secret Santa is going to be tricky.

As it is I've been contenting myself with old stuff that's new to me.  Thanks to Bill's influence and my brother's cd collection, I'm still catching up with Man - I'd heartily recommend them to anyone especially if you have a liking for the Allman's. Not to say that they sound the same but they seem like kindred spirits to me.  Just bought 'Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day' and it's a cracker.

Shamefully, I must say that up until recently, Uriah Heep had passed me by.  However, I'm busily putting that right too. Demons & Wizards is the obvious gem I suppose, but I really like Look At Yourself and Sweet Freedom too.

One new album that has filtered through is the new Coheed & Cambria. Heavier than their last one and a bit more prog too. Nice.  I'm looking forward to seeing them live in June.

I filed a reply but it seems to have been lost in outer space :)

Been buying up some, ever cheaper, CD's on E Bay replacing Vinyl/
cassette or lost albums.

One old Cd that has found its way back onto my CD player is Sammy
Hagars Loud & Clear Live album.

What a great album, fine musicians, great riffs, lively, humourous,
entertaining, nothing negative to say about it. Why this album isn't
more well known is beyond me, great stuff :)

Not posted for a while.
Thought I would look through the messages in the spare 30 minutes or
so I have while I am waiting for the train to Manchester to go see
Kiss tonight.
My listening pleasure at the moment just so happens to be Sammy
Hagar's Street Machine as I am a bit tired of listening to Kiss for
the past week in readyness for tonights show.
Loud and Clear is a great album as others have stated, Sammy is often
overlooked and he has made a lot of good albums, not necceserily great
albums but pretty good. I think he lets himself down a little as
aguitarist on his albums as live the guy can play as good as anyone.
Saw him in 1980 i think and it is still one of the best shows I can
recall.

Right on! I cannot think of many good releases so far this year but I
am looking forward to the new album from Skin, especially as Thunder
are no more. It should be a good slice of British/American classic
rock
.
Sammy is now playing Never Say Die, I am sorting out a lot of music at
present as I am nearly ready to re-start my 24rock.net station
broadcast. Will let you all know when it is up and running. For those
who used to listen it will have even better music on it, for those who
did,nt what can I say, it was the best classic rock jukebox in the
world and it will be again.
It is currently broadcasting, but due to me not altering the playlist
in a while it is only currently available to live 365 members. No
other station plays the variety that your friend Fred does, watch this
space for updates.
Right, platforms on, makeup done, wig in place, leather polished and
its off to see Kiss.
Only kidding on the dress, its jeans and a tee for me, I,m gonna rock
& roll all night..............

The one album I'm looking forward to is Y&T's "Facemelter".  I've seen the band on the last 3 tours and they have been excellent - like the track that's been released as a promo too.  I'm sure it won't match the impact of "Earthshaker" or "Black Tiger" but I'm hoping it'll go some of the way.

I could never get excited about Skin.  Okay stuff, quite like the first album actually...  but I was always disappointed that Jagged Edge split.  "Fuel For Your Soul" was an album I really liked and I saw the band live a few times supporting Thunder and headlining their own tour around the time of the albums release. For me I guess that once Matt Alfonzetti was gone it was never the same

Agree with you Fred that Sammy Hagar has good albums but no real great.  Always something worth hearing on each though.

Looking forward to the return of Rock24 Fred, dont forget Trespass on
your play list :)

Funny how we have independantly been listening to some Hagar stuff, I
also have Montrose (Brilliant), Street Machine (OK), Unboxed (OK),
Loud and Clear (Brilliant), Into The Fire - HSAS (Brilliant), Standing
Hampton (Excellent opener, then forgetable), plus various Van Hagar
albums of which I particularly like Balance.

I have a few Skin albums & EP's, I like them but dont play them very
often.

Having a bit of a run of Savatage and Wasp at the moment, when Wasp
are good they sure are good :)
Listening to some of the Savatage that is new to me, they have loads
of albums, of which I now have 3, with two more on order.

NLT - I Wanna Know - Skew Siskin.

Off to see Kiss on Wednesday (12th) night.

Well that covers album was fairly forgettable to be honest.

So its back to Saxons mighty fine Unleash The Beast Album.
Question: Are "Circle of Light" & "The Preacher" two of the best rock
tracks ever written ?

Answer: Yes, or at least two very good contenders.

In my oipinion that is, obviously.

Think I "replied to Author" just now - so apologies to whomever got a
rogue message from me

NLT - Triumph Greatest Hits.

Never had Triumph on CD before as I never got around to putting their
vinyl onto mp3. Superb stuff now digitally remixed and with their
DVD's

As they would say, I am SPELLBOUND!
