I borrowed Doug's magic rubber cone compressing tool and finally
replaced the front right suspension knuckle on my Mini. It finally
sits level all around! WOo hoo!

I could not get the tool threaded in the front left (and I didn't have
a tap to chase the threads clean with). Now I'm reluctant to mess with
it because the car is sitting perfectly level. I'd hate to put in a
new front left one and have it sit a little high on that side!

The front right was badly worn with a torn rubber boot and everything.
The front left appears to still be in serviceable condition, so I'll
leave it as-is for now. The car rides and feels great.

Hooray for Minis that sit level! And a big thanks to Doug for the loan
of the tool! I'll get it back to you sometime soon, Doug.

I'm glad the tool worked for you.

As I mentioned to you when you came over last weekend, those threads
on the front cones tend to corrode and collect debris. I'll see if I
can find the necessary parts to make a long extension for a 1/2-20
tap. I know you said the other side looks to be OK. However, the
nylon cup in the front arms tends to go dry over time. Once the
grease is gone it's only a matter of time before the steel ball wears
through. This would be a good time to re-lube the other side if you
can get the puller rod in there.
