to Classic Minis of Durham and Chapel Hill
This is Susan,Im from the Chapel Hill area, actually have a Pittsboro
address and a Chapel Hill phone #,6 miles north of Pittsboro.I bought
my Mini last Dec.Had been looking for one for a long time, every other
one I saw just had classic mini rot or were was overpriced, stumbled
apon one 4 miles from my house! And the price was right too.Over the
years I had several odd-ball cars,a 73 Fiat 131 brava,72 spitfire
etc..and as of the moment have a total of 8 cars, all licenced and
insured and roadworthy. 1955 Belaire,1964 Galaxie,1979 Leyland Mini,
1979 Ford F150,1984 Monte Carlo SS,1986 Monte Carlo SS areo coupe,1987
Monte Carlo SS areo coupe,and a 2003 Monte Carlo SS.Yeah yeah..too
many montes,my husband said he thought of selling off a few,and
selling one would create a parking space for 2 more minis!!

Hello everyone!

Sorry to take so long to say hello, my kids just started a break from school
this week and it's been hectic, in a good way.

I'm Desmond, I'm 42 and married with three kids. We've got a 9 year old
daughter and twin 5 year old boys. We live in Durham near the SuperTarget on
15-501.

I've only been a British car owner for a few years now, but I learned to
drive on my mom's new MGB in the later-70s (I didn't know how good I had it
learning that way!). I bought an MGB a few years ago and have since gone
through a bunch of MGBs! Recently I've branched out to other LBCs but I only
became a Mini owner a few weeks ago. I haven't even driven it yet but I'm
already hooked!

I happened upon our Mini - a "seafoam green" '71 Mini 850 - after our Austin
Marina (the main family car) got in an accident. It's still driveable, but
we needed a new main family car for taking the kids to school and scooting
about town. A guy at work had this Mini; it had been sitting for a year and
he didn't have the time or resources to get it roadworthy any time soon. I
asked him if he wanted to sell it and the rest is history...

I've got it home today and should have it on the road by next week. I just
need to finish installing all the new brake stuff and bleed the brakes and
clutch and then wake up the engine gently. I got new Kumho tires and put
them on the original plain steel rims. I painted the wheels Old English
White and I've got a set of hubcaps for them. I like that look.

For a day job, I work at Flying Circus English Cars in Durham doing Internet
marketing and used parts and vehicle sales. It's probably a bad thing -
working there just makes my English car "habit" that much easier to keep up!
;-)

I don't have quite as many cars as Susan, but my driveway is pretty full.
We've got a '73 MGB (wife's daily driver), a '67 Sprite ("my" convertible),
a '75 Austin Marina (was the main family car), a '71 Mini (the new family
car) and an old minivan (needs work, probably going to sell).

My hope for this informal group is to just keep things simple. I'm a member
of the NC MG Car Club and it's a great club. I don't want to start a new
club, exactly, but rather just be able to communicate with local Mini owners
and maybe get together informally on occasion. Maybe we can meet in-person
at a cafe on a nice weekend day as Spring rolls around!

Spread the word to any other area Mini owners you know or run into. If they
want to join this group they are welcome to. I've set up the list so only
members can post so we don't get spammed. Anyone (except spammers!) can
become a member by requesting on the Google Groups website. See the link at
the bottom of each group email for the Google Groups website - it's a handy
way to access group stuff, read the emails, search past messages, etc..

Cheers!

-Desmond
